In 2021, three yushos were won by Yokozunas, one by an Ozeki, one by a Sekiwake and one by M1W!   The fact that Terunofuji accounted for the Sekiwake, the Ozeki and two of the Yokozuna yushos should also be noted.

How about in 2022?

Which ranks do you think will win the Makunouchi yushos in 2021?

Please write your predictions in the comments below.

Please also mention which rikishi (give names!) and their ranks you think will actually win the yushos (and how many).

This will be used as a tie-breaker (if needed) to decide the yusho winner for this poll at the end of the year.

Fearless prediction.

Tero-zeki wins 4 yusho. Only one will be 15-0.

The Ozeki win will be by Takakeisho (14-1) over undefeated Terunofuji (14-1) on senshuraku, then winning kettei-sen against same.

The Sekiwake win will be by Ura.

Unagiyutaka the Fearless?

Almost half of us think that four yushos will be won by a Yokozuna. Probably Terunofuji....

Most people think that only one Ozeki will win a yusho this year.

Also, most people think that one yusho will be won by a rikishi ranked Sekiwake or lower. As I type this (after day 8 action in the January basho), Sekiwake Mitakeumi is the sole leader on 8 wins - so that be could be in the cards for this basho!

Well, a week is a long time in sumo. Anything could happen....

Let's see...

This is how the yushos were won in 2023....

Jan: S1E Mitakeumi (13-2)
Mar: S1E Wakatakakage (12-3)
May: Y1E Terunofuji (12-3)
Jul: M2W Ichinojo (12-3)
Sep: M3E Tamawashi (13-2)
Nov: M9W Abi (12-3)

The closest to 'one' yusho won by a Yokozuna was a bit off with 'three' - but that was predicted by Kashunowaka, Kaminariyuki, Asapedroryu, Getayukata, Hakahonofan and Frakazu.

Zero yushos were won by Ozekis. Hakuryuho and Pitinosato got that correct.

An amazing five yushos were won by rikishi ranked at Sekiwake and below! The closest to that prediction was 'two' by Kashunowaka, Kaminariyuki and Getayukata.

To the comments to see who to award the yusho to!

I think that @Kaminariyuki's prediction of a yusho for Abi, plus just two yushos for Terunofuji means that he sneaks the yusho here.... (Yushowinner...)

But, @Pitinosato's correct prediction for question 2, and his prediction of an Abi yusho means that he deserves the jun-yusho (Secondprize...)

Well, there are many people here who know more about sumo than I, so I am humbled by the narrow win. I will attempt to gambarimasu.

Thanks for hosting the poll. It's one of my favorites, so I'll look for 2023 and attempt to represent my beya well.
