Leo C 52 Posted January 3, 2022 Hey! I've been lurking the forums for a while so I decided to sign up. I'm from Brazil, but I moved to Tokyo in 2020. First basho I watched was Nagoya 2019. I've been a pro wrestling fan since I was 12 or something, so at some point I figured that hey, I enjoy watching big guys running into each other so sumo should be fun too! And in fact it is. When I came to Japan I figured that I'd have more opportunities to talk to people about sumo, but actually it seems as if no one in my age group (26 now) watches it here. They are usually amused by the concept that a foreigner enjoys sumo. Only person who actually watches that I've talked to was a 65-year-old professor from university. We had fun discussing about it; he mentioned how he wanted a Japanese guy to become Yokozuna and that Asanoyama was good on the dohyo but "an idiot". That reminds me of a similar story. Many years ago, I was invited at a house in San Diego (CA) to watch the Superbowl. I was actually the only one watching it, all the Americans were on the balcony drinking beers talking loudly and looking at the ocean ! Anyway welcome to this forum and enjoy all your time here.
