More than 200 kensho will appear at the Hatsu basho, every day this time, showing different pokemon.

A few of the new Pokemon kensho, no other kensho news so far again this time. The maker site that posts all new kensho ordered with them has not yet posted the new complete set

The NSK made a partner contract with Itoen, maker of Ooi-ocha, standard for green tea in plastic bottles at vending machines etc., also in the kokugikan. As official partner from this basho on, Itoen will also have advertisements on display and a special booth. https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2022010700828

Pokemon will get a new record for most kensho at a basho by one company: 257

And it looks like more than 200 means more than 200 different ones, Hochi says 218 variations with all kinds of Pokemon http://hochi.news/articles/20220108-OHT1T51079.html?page=1

A contract as official top partner, top of 3 categories of such contracts, official partner and official sponsor are the others. Advertisements, booths at all basho this year, at the 3 Tokyo basho a photo booth is planned where you can do a dohyo-iri in a special kesho mawashi http://hochi.news/articles/20220107-OHT1T51130.html?page=1

Just curious why on day 1, all 10 of Mitakeumi's kensho were paraded in one go, whereas on day 2, despite there being fewer in total, they paraded in two goes (first 5 and then 3)...

Time issues? (...just a guess...)

Not sure if this is significant, but when you compare this tournament to the last tournament in Tokyo (i.e., September 2021), the total number of kensho on day 1s was 140 and 104 respectively.  Based on day 1 totals alone, that's a 35% increase in sponsorship!

When looking at January 2021 (the last hatsu basho in Tokyo), there were only 98 kensho on day 1 (i.e., this year's hatsu basho has witnessed a 43% increase).

Terunofuji is not the reason for this increase IMHO.  Maybe the oyakata are doing a better job of attracting sponsors, but I suspect that there may be growing optimism (among corporate sponsors) about the future despite the pandemic.

Short parades don't really eat up much extra time, but it's worth considering.

shortage of available yobidashi?

promoter wanting their kensho banner in the front of the parade?

It is noteworthy that so far in this tournament (3 days running), every single bout in the Top Division has had at least one kensho prize on offer.  In previous tournaments (correct me if I'm wrong), there was usually at least one bout in the Top Division that failed to attract any sponsorship.

A logical result of the Pokemon company having at least one Pokemon kensho shown at every bout  - they don't care who fights. We simply had no such basho before, the NSK surely loves the publicity, a chance not to be missed for them. Which normal firm would order more than 200 different kensho banners? Pokemon inc. gets one record after the other with this publicity stunt, I wonder if Nintendo will have a significant increase in sales for that company.
