There was a very helpful spreadsheet that did something like that at some point but it seems it no longer exists. Edit : It was a "helper page" made by Tsuchinoninjin. I loved it ! Jakusotsu 6,049 Posted April 20, 2022 What sound does a falling tree make if only one person is listening? Or in other words: If only one player shows up for GTB, which score will he get? 15-0? 0-15? 7.5-.7.5?

If Kintamayama, or the powers that be, agree to otherwise void the next round of GTB results, I'll happily let you try and find out.

If the opponent doesn't show up, it's a "walkover" in other words a full win so ... 15-0.

For determining the top performers over the last 6 basho this one player would score 1x the average score of all participants and the value "1" would be stored on his record for the next 6 tournaments. For most high performers this would be a disastrous outcome.

We males have to re-do stuff all the time when brain switches from sex to no sex. You show your age. It is now called "NC-17". They gave back one year (age restrictions used to also be 18 for the ol' XXX). I was using "X" as a generic placeholder. Off topic, but what do the Japanese use for a placeholder? Say they are writing a text and want to leave a space for a subject. To bring this back on-topic, say I were writing an article for publication the day of the banzuke release. The night before, I draft the entire body of the report but left blanks for the names. I would put placeholders, such as: "The two Komusubi are [XXX] and [YYY]." - so that the next day I could search for the brackets and fill in the appropriate names. Do Japanese have a kana or kanji to represent a placeholder? PS: I wonder if Kintamayama can somehow use "NC-17" in the next GTB invite. Seiyashi 4,108 Posted April 20, 2022 (edited) 1 hour ago, Muhomatsu said: Do Japanese have a kana or kanji to represent a placeholder? The translation of tate-yobidashi Hideo's sumo memoirs by Clyde Newton uses xxx- as a generic shikona prefix to illustrate examples: so you would see things like "higashi, xxxumi, nishi, xxxyama". There are some examples beyond sumō that support this use: the anime/manga series xxxHolic uses xxx also in its placeholder sense, and the franchise is read as "holic" when spoken. That said, I could also swear I've seen a generic circle being used as a placeholder in other Japanese contexts when I've visited, though I couldn't for the life of me show proof (and memory is a curious thing). But even in English, in the example you provided, various organisations have their own in-house means of leaving placeholders, not necessarily XXX. My previous corporate encounters usually had square brackets with a large dot (no text otherwise), usually highlighted in yellow for good measure. My current boss uses a single set of triple asterisks for an obvious "fill in here", or a double set to bracket instructions for the placeholder where not immediately obvious. I don't think placeholder use rises to a language convention for most languages, although I definitely don't know enough languages to generalise. Kaito 311 Posted April 24, 2022 59. Not expecting top 10, but pretty good, considering. Little unhappy about having Hokutofuji/Endo swapped after I had it right on the first draft. And If I'd left myself enough time to make a new entry at the deadline, I think I would've nailed the Okinoumi/Nishikigi line, bumping Aoiyama. But I'd say I got pretty lucky to have some things falling into place in sections that were wrong, so all right. I was worried I was gonna fall on my face this time. Cricket, Golf, Darts and Bowling work in much the same way in my experience. Sometimes you feel that someone on the banzuke committee has a sick sense of humour. "You see a pattern? Hmmm...let's see... How do you like your pattern now? Mwahahaha!"

Asashosakari 19,651 Posted April 24, 2022 (edited) A very flattering 53 here. Other than getting Kagayaki's non-demotion right there's not a lot in there that I'd be putting on a GTB resume. Edited April 24, 2022 by Asashosakari
Hoshotakamoto 259 Posted April 25, 2022 I think I finished with 54. They broke a lot of my assumptions (e.g. Oho > Ichiyamamoto). I'll be curious to see what pops out if I redo my picks with more emphasis on not over- or under- promoting.
Kintamayama 45,518 Posted April 25, 2022 Hello everyone, Results will be late as there is a monoii due to some issues I had with multiple entries by mail and trying to discern which entry was the last. Patience. One thing is for sure-the yusho was won by a pretty large margin by someone -his fourth yusho..
