Crazy opportunity for a lot of these Amateur Rikishi. Ozumo rikishi are a common sight at the SWC even when it’s in Osaka. From late October through December they will be in Kyushu (and then Kansai) though so that will impact how many attend the tournament this time.

Asashosakari 19,427 Posted October 1, 2023 There wouldn't be some sort of athlete roster available, would it? I went looking for information on the IFS site yesterday, but as usual you'd hardly know that their annual showpiece event is even going to be on in less than a week.

Katooshu 3,251 Posted October 7, 2023 (edited) The Brazilian team was my favourite on day 1. It included a skinny kid named Kaio who was picking up and tossing giants, and an extremely muscular and talented middleweight who was runner-up in individuals and then beat Noda in team competition. Katooshu 3,251 Posted October 8, 2023 (edited) Ukraine dominates the adult medal count, and Miwa and Matsuzono both fell to Ukrainian opponents. Miwa lost in the finals and ended up with silver, Matsuzono lost his first match but came through the losing bracket to win bronze. Kusano takes the only men's individual gold for Japan, at heavyweight, but they win the team gold in style with a 3-0 over Ukraine. Ukraine's women won 2-1 over Japan in the other team final. Akinomaki 40,622 Posted October 8, 2023 (edited) Kusano after the win in the heavy weight final against Mongolian Naranbayaar Khangai o he also contributed to the team yusho at the junior world championships 4 years ago o (Sponichi claims it's his debut at the world championships this time) - the team win this time after 2 championships, 2 less members than at the Asian title yesterday: Kusano, Matsuzono, Goshima (Takudai 3rd year), substitute Miwa o with a sf win against Mongolia, that with Georgia finished 3rd. Japan got medals in all categories, in other words, all participants from Japan got a medal.
