Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 6, 2022 (edited) 1756 kensho have been applied for, 133 less than at the previous Tokyo basho in January. 1 new sponsor, most fix kensho on his bouts has Mitakeumi. http://www.sanspo.com/article/20220506-O25KMUOJP5NO3IE2R4TMOVDUEE/ Edited October 3, 2022 by Akinomaki 1
Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) Morinaga goes back to pre-Corona times: no digital voting this time and no result on twitter. With 87% allowed into the kokugikan, the votes take place only there for those who buy the chocolate, and the hall announcer tells the result after the dohyo-iri - it usually can be heard on Abema. I'll add it later if I find it, usually it is on Terunofuji, but who knows how long he'll be in the basho. Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Even if he drops out after tomorrow, Terunofuji is basically safe as the no.1 now. With the ozeki as weak as this, the rest is still wide open. Shodai has to gambarize to get into the rankings at all. Last basho he made it on day 9, this time the nakabi win vs. Hoshoryu is the only time he got a pack of more than 10. His bout tomorrow is against sponsorless Tamawashi, just 8 kensho in the last ozeki bout, the sponsors really have given up on Shodai now. Tamawashi can get back into the rankings with a win. Day 10 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2205_10.pdf 173: Terunofuji (M) 81: Daieisho 73: Mitakeumi 63: Kotonowaka 58: Takanosho 54: Takakeisho 50: Abi 46: Kiribayama 42: Wakatakakage 42: Hoshoryu Edited May 17, 2022 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 18, 2022 Tomorrow against popular Tobizaru Shodai can again get a medium pack, if he avoids kadoban. Only a win against at least an ozeki will bring him firmly into the ranks though. The last one will maybe have more than 50 in the end and we'll have an unusually even distribution of the kensho money - below the yokozuna that is. Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) Shodai next against Mitakeumi can get his so far best pack of the basho and secure into the rankings, and we know he's best with his back to the wall/ the river (haisui no jin). Day 12 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2205_12.pdf 222: Terunofuji 91: Daieisho 73: Mitakeumi 71: Takakeisho 66: Takanosho 63: Kotonowaka 62: Abi 54: Wakatakakage 50: Kiribayama 49: Hoshoryu Edited October 3, 2022 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 20, 2022 Next chance for Shodai tomorrow in the last bout with again his biggest pack so far. To be in the rankings in the end one may even need 60 - maybe a record. Day 13 http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/honbasho/kansen/torikumi/2205_13.pdf 255: Terunofuji 95: Mitakeumi 92: Daieisho 71: Takakeisho 71: Kotonowaka 68: Abi 66: Takanosho 62: Wakatakakage 56: Endo 53: Kiribayama
Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Doesn't look like Shodai will make it into the rankings - again a really big pack in reach against Takakeisho next, but why should he suddenly win against an ozeki fighting for kachikoshi with nothing to gain for him but the kensho pack. Hoshoryu can reach the 60 mark tomorrow, Endo can surpass it. 2nd to 4th place are still interchangeable. Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 22, 2022 Kiribayama won and so we have only 59 for the last ranking position. Shodai failed to make it there, Mitakeumi dropped out of the top 3 in the end. Akinomaki 40,640 Posted May 22, 2022 The basho had 1625 kensho, 131 more than last basho. Most for one day as usual on day 15: 157 kensho. https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2022052200381 1
