kawika 123 Posted June 6, 2022 I am visiting Tokyo later this year. I won't have time to travel outside of Tokyo to take in any famous onsen. I wanted to know if anyone in the forum could recommend an onsen or sento in Tokyo that is worth the trouble. Google did kick back this useful list, 12 Best Natural Onsen in Tokyo | Spend a Day at a Super Sento (sakuramobile.jp). Still, I would like to get first-hand accounts from folks here. Tochinofuji 387 Posted June 7, 2022 Nothing all that special, but about a 15 minute walk from the Kokugikan is Mikokuyu: http://mikokuyu.com/ 3 Chome-30-10 Ishiwara, Sumida City, Tokyo 130-0011 +81 3-3623-1695 https://g.co/kgs/EBCprk Great for a sento experience. I ran into a few rikishi there, along with at least one oyakata (who I recognized, but whose name escapes me at the moment). 1
Yamanashi 3,903 Posted June 7, 2022 A little farther afield would be Nishiyatsu Onsen in Ogano, Saitama. Run by Miyamoto Kazuteru, ex-rikishi Tsurugidake Teruki and twelfth-generation owner. https://www.miyamotoke.jp/english/ 1
Yarimotsu 588 Posted June 7, 2022 Not a firsthand experience, but Trash Taste podcast informed me that the best onsen in Tokyo prefecture closed down recently. Also if you have any tattoos, this site might help https://tattoo-friendly.jp/advanced-search/?keyword=&state=&location=tokyo&status=&type=&min-price=¥0&max-price=¥100%2C000 1

dingo 1,294 Posted June 22, 2022 I would recommend the Yumorinosato onsen in Chofu. Been there a few times when I used to live in Tokyo (although it was called Yukari at that time) and it was always pleasurable. Its not very huge, but big enough. There's a lot of different outdoor baths and even a sauna. The ambiance is very nice and relaxing, a lot of wooden materials. It's also very affordable. I used to take a shuttle bus there from Musashisakai Station, but there's also other ways to access. I see the Yumorinosato is also no. 11 on the list you posted, so it seems to be well acclaimed. I can only agree.
