It seemed such an important topic in matches in the not so distant past. I am just kidding. In sumo the rikishi should be prepared for anything that may be thrown at them. If Abi hasn't been paying attention then he is in for another potential forearm blast tomorrow. Takayasu rose up to Ozeki on the strength of his kachiage. Lost the move on his way down, and now has it back and is on the cusp of his first yusho. Not sure where the line should be drawn as to the permissibility of the move. Maybe OK if you're Ozeki or below but beneath the dignity of a dominating Yokozuna?

Normally a hiramaku yusho was practically a guarantee to get two prizes, but recent yusho scores have been abysmal and a majority of them have been 12-3. Which means this should not be surprising

If Takayasu stiffens up from the pressure like he has before, Abi's Tsuppari will get the best of him. And if he lunges with his aggressive kachiage, Abi has the cleverness and quick reaction to henka him and cause him to lose balance. Rooting for Takayasu especially and Abi if not him, but this final day is shaping up to be a Takakeisho extra-innings win. Seiyashi 4,072 Posted November 27, 2022 Good to see they aren't enforcing climbs to the dohyō. Ichiyamamoto needed the wheelchair but wasn't made to reascend the dohyō for the bow after the mono-ii.
Kaninoyama 1,718 Posted November 27, 2022 Disastrous basho for Terutsuyoshi. 0-15. Would have been better off going kyujo from the beginning and healing his wounds.

Even Shōhōzan didn't manage it last time!

Eikokurai 3,437 Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) Oh, no, Takayasu, don’t do it again. Still, great value for the fans. What a finale! Edited November 27, 2022 by Eikokurai

Kaninoyama 1,718 Posted November 27, 2022 Anyone but Abi and Takayasu would have taken care of it. Worst possible opponent at the worst possible time.
Akinomaki 40,158 Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) I had thought it was more recent, but the last tomoesen in makuuchi was 28 years ago. Went as apparently expected by the sansho committee - Takayasu and Oho both lost - Oho didn't get enough votes for a conditional sansho there Edited November 27, 2022 by Akinomaki 1

Akinomaki 40,158 Posted November 27, 2022 Nice yusho interview by Oshoma - rather than the oyakata, the coach from Nittaidai was in contact with him each day after he got kachikoshi to give him advice
Akinomaki 40,158 Posted November 27, 2022 And out of sanyaku he drops. Mitakeumi may need another three yusho to get back to ozeki.
Leo C 52 Posted November 27, 2022 I'm happy Hoshoryu got his gino-sho at least. I was rooting for Takayasu, hopefully he still makes it but I don't have very high hopes at this point.
Eikokurai 3,437 Posted November 27, 2022 He may have slipped out of the yusho race, but Hoshoryu ends with a very solid 11-4 to launch an Ozeki run.
Akinomaki 40,158 Posted November 27, 2022 He really wanted that ginousho, half henka to get him into a good position, but then Hoshoryu still had to struggle
