Edited original Topic title to reflect new information we now have. Given that he's participating in Kyushu, his demise doesn't appear imminent, but there are clearly some significant concerns surrounding Ichinojo. 

 

Ichinojo is suspected of having used physical violence against his heya's Okami. Both he and his Shisho have been questioned by NSK and an investigation is ongoing.

Ichi appears to have a serious drinking problem, and the relationship between he and the heya is said to be beyond repair.

No mention of kyujo in Kyushu though.

This is shocking .... and really sad!  I had no idea that Ichinojo had a drinking problem.  I would be surprised if he is allowed to compete  at Kyushu.  Do you think he will be kicked out of ozumo altogether if found guilty?

If the reports of physical violence against his shisho's wife are true, he'll have a one-way ticket back to Mongolia.

For how long has Hanakago been investigating? If the proof is as clear cut as they imply, surely Ichinojō would have been forcibly retired by now.

It appears that the investigation is ongoing and they're still in the fact-gathering stage, so no official conclusions have yet been reached. 

As things stand today, Ichinojo will be entering Kyushu despite the fractured shiso-deshi relationship.

It is a trending headline on the front page of Yahoo Japan, so I thought it was newsworthy. Feel free to delete if not.

Drunk, rehab, drunk, missed a kyokai photo shoot, after the Oyakata reported his errant behavior to the Kyokai in March, Ichinojou declared he will be talking to the Oyakata through a lawyer only, missed keiko without permission, left the heya in December to live alone, etc.. etc..

In a way, this explains his unexpected yusho in July, having missed May due to the virus. He got his act together to prove a point. Geez, so much for 'injury-free'.

A new article from the same source as that of Oct. 3rd tells Ichinojo has been drinking heavily and skipping keiko since February and Minato oyakata had been reporting this already in March - the NSK had questioned both several times http://npn.co.jp/article/detail/200025396

Seems they wanted to avoid another scandal - Takatoriki gains credibility for his channel as the one to make this public

Ichinojo has Tamawashi on day 1 and Mitakeumi on day 2 - if he doesn't withdraw, now that it is all over the newspapers.

If he wants to prove something again, that is bad for the 2, likely he'll lose big though, if he stays in the basho.

It was just Takatoriki and a net tabloid that pointed it out - it was simply ignored elsewhere. I didn't post it then, because it was only this one article and then nothing more happened - I might have posted it hadn't it been my favorite rikishi being in the crossfire.

The NSK knew all along before his yusho, apparently they wanted to keep it an internal affair.

This should be a wake up call for the NSK, a Sports Phycologist would be a nice addition to the ichimons , please get into the 21st century, the lives of the rickishi depends on it.

I have no idea when the second one was filmed, but the first one must have been filmed after Ichinojo's yusho win in July.

Ichinojo having a drinking problem would explain his highly variable performances over the last few years. Looks great one day, drops like a sack of potatoes the next…hangovers and dehydration from drinking could legitimately explain that. I’m wishing well for everyone involved, especially the oyakata and his wife who seem to be almost terrorized at this point.

Drinking would also explain weight shifts and his seeming inability to keep his weight under control despite expressing the desire to, which in turn would exacerbate (or at least not help) the back trouble. God knows, I put on ~10% of my body weight over a year of semi-regular social drinking, and I've never really managed to get rid of the consequences; can't imagine what a rikishi with a drinking problem is going to suffer in terms of weight control.
