Recommended Posts

Application time for the pre-advance sales lottery starts on the 2nd, general sales start on the 10th 10a.m. JST, on the net, in 7/11 convenience stores and by phone. Tickets for the day will be on sale on the net and in 7/11 stores, not yet decided if also at the kokugikan ticket booth. No limitation of spectator numbers. https://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/ticket/Jan/purchase/615/#saisoku2

Edit: another page says: no tickets for the day on sale for the Hatsu basho https://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/ticket/Jan/seat/615/

Insted they have D chair seats, only at the Hatsu basho, the 14th row, that of the tickets for the day, not on sale at 7/11 stores. https://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/ticket/Jan/handling/615/

A different format of initial poster this time, with Abi doing his trademark shiko - his is one of the best

new special ticket: photo shoot with sekitori attached - apparently he will be there https://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/ticket/Jan/deals/615/:

Ticket sales for January seem to be rather sluggish. More than 48 hours after the public onsale started, there are still plenty available for all days, at least as far as chair seats go. Is the apparent lack of interest owing to the state of Terunofuji's knees and his possible (probable?) lack of participation, the generally lackluster performance the depleted Ozeki corps, or some other factor(s)? I wonder if sales will pick up as the tournament approaches.

Ticket sales have been sluggish all the time since Corona. Even day 15 was rarely sold out and you can basically get tickets for the day on all other days, so they have abandoned the usual tickets for the day.

Oh wow I didnt know that the dohyo clay was reused! Also, I think there by the middle of the video you can see the Sumo Prime Time 2-men crew recording! Question: Why was the dohyo already done if January is some weeks from us still?

A few days before each basho we see vids of workers constructing the dohyo, flattening the clay and adjusting the tawara. Is it only this  upper layer which is rebuilt each time?

Basically. The dohyo is dismantled, but the core remains, and this year for the first time was renewed. New soil is brought in to build a new upper layer.
