After Nishonoseki, who writes columns for Sponichi and Nikkei shimbun, Miyagino now joins Oguruma as sports commentator for Hochi shimbun.

Hak started his column with a piece on the Ichinojo bout for day 1 and one on Asanoyama-Kawazoe for day 2 https://hochi.news/articles/20220912-OHT1T51206.html?page=1

- Nishonoseki wrote about out-boxer Tobizaru for that day https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2022/09/13/kiji/20220913s00005000063000c.html

- also Oguruma, Tamanoi and Fujishima, who writes for sanspo, picked that bout vs. Terunofuji

I think Miyagino is the first foreign born oyakata to write a regular column in Japanese for a national paper

More and more have their columns, I'll include also those retired from the NSK, ex-Washuyama e.g. writes for Shinmai. Shikoroyama had a column in Asahi, but I think it stopped.

Newest writer is Hidenoyama for Tokyo Sports http://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/250211

I was surprised to see something on Abi (Saitama/Chiba) in the Aomori paper Toonippo and found out that local Nishiiwa is writing a column there now. He sees Abi as an ozeki candidate. http://www.toonippo.co.jp/articles/-/1477149

Wakanosato at his debut column pointed out three ozeki candidates, Abi top, Wakatakakage and Takayasu, who he thinks can reach yokozuna. Another one to look out for is Asanoyama, but he doesn't mention Hoshoryu.

Wakanosato only had the first article for free, the next was behind the paywall.

Nikkei has also Asakayama as columnist https://www.nikkei.com/theme/?dw=14CA0100

One article per basho, Nikkei after registration has 10 articles for free per month.

Nishonoseki has one article per month in his column https://www.nikkei.com/theme/?dw=14CA0700

Shibatayama for at least 5 years writes for Mainichi shimbun https://mainichi.jp/ch171293815i/一刀両断

they scrapped the free contingent of articles quite a while ago, as Asahi did more recently

Shikoroyama had his last column on Asahi last June https://www.asahi.com/rensai/list.html?id=453

Toyonoshima has a column in Hokkoku shimbun, Morozashi talk - his wife is from the region

The recent talk was really in form of a talk-show, in a hotel in Takakoka, where his wife is from: Asanoyama has the duty to go for yokozuna, he has that Atlas power, to carry the sumo world on his shoulders

Yomiuri has a [相撲論]Sumo Discourse column each basho now, behind the paywall, every time another oyakata. For Hatsu it was Hakkaku, for Haru Shibatayama, now Asakayama.

At the new Otowayama-beya with 3 rikishi - not only the oyakata, also veteran Hagane guides the 2 young ones, mainly maezumo returner Takeuchi - in the back Shirasaka, who will be at the shindeshi kensa for Haru (and maybe like recent years have his shusse hirou and dohyo debut at the Natsu basho, without maezumo)

the article is by Kakuryu himself https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASS1R4G0XS1NUTQP028.html

AS20240123001488.jpgo

Kakuryu now has a regular column at Asahi shimbun 音羽山親方の角界見聞録 Otowayama-oyakata's sumo world observation record - only the first was viewable in full for free

Asahi now also got Konishiki for a new column, but he didn't write it, he talked to some Asahi guy who may be the author of this slightly weird column: Does it have to be fair and square? 正々堂々じゃなきゃ、ダメですか? - in all 3 parts, but there are already 5 parts listed on the page - and from the start half of it behind the paywall https://www.asahi.com/rensai/list.html?id=2065

AS20240207001669.jpgo AS20240206001989.jpgo AS20240201001437.jpgo

First part about henka - if it's a problem, why don't ban it?

AS20240206001993.jpgo

Hakuho had a 3-part column Hakuho-do in 2021, Shikoroyama one of 30 parts from April 2019 till March last year.

This whole series of now 6 parts is all about the one henka of Takakeisho against Atamifuji for the Aki basho yusho

AS20240206001698.jpgo

Part 5 by Kakuryu: There is no one who gets applause by everybody

He did a similar tachiai henka on the way to his first yokozuna yusho, against one win behind Kisenosato on day 14 of Aki 2015

Miyagino has stopped his column at Hochi of course, ex-Oguruma after leaving the NSK now focusses on his writing there, now just as ex-ozeki Kotokaze, Sports Hochi commentator, without a special column like "Oguruma-oyakata No Me". Shibatayama after stepping down as PR top is going on with his column 一刀両断, but not once each basho, skipping regional basho lately - I thought he had stopped after falling from grace with Hakkaku.

Kitanofuji had a column on Chunichi sports はやわざ御免 "Sorry for that fast move" http://www.chunichi.co.jp/chuspo/chuspocolumn/kitanofuji

this one going on for at least 3 years (he had columns for many more years), but it stopped last basho, due to the present conditions.

His column is still kyujo, but Chunichi reports that Kitanofuji made a comment on the gold medal of javelin thrower Kitaguchi at the Olympics, she's from his hometown. He had mentioned her in a column on July 24th 2022.
