Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 22, 2023 Being a bit of a stats/maths nerd (Translation: autistic) I tend to track my games daily. I have separate, detailed notes for prebasho. But right now I am interested in how my fellow gamers follow the games day to day. The attached pic is my way. It's just a printout of the Toto mail confirmation. Top right (main) is Sumo Game. Sorry Flohru...can't believe you picked h2h on Mitakeumi today. Loss was likely. To the bottom and left of that is my Bench match. Easy win today. Bottom left are the quick games. ISP and TTT (and usually Chain) are there. Then to the right of that it's Quad, Odd and Tipspiel. To the right of Bench are bouts of rivals in SG (always my main one to win). Top top right is my fellow Bench Ozeki Joaoyama. I always keep track of fellow yokozuna or ozeki. As for Toto, we lost the picking stats many years ago so I guess how I am doing...see the number on the right of the Toto picks. Anyway, you sad bastards. Are any of you as sad as me?? I have been doing this since 2009, I think.
Kaito 311 Posted March 22, 2023 I'm too lazy to be handwriting all that every day. I usually just keep 3 tabs open, one each for Sumo Game and Bench, and one with my e-mails, so I can follow along with Toto and check TTT/Quad/Odd as needed. In the Sumo Game and Bench tabs, I write the unique wrestlers each side has into the address bar (with how many points they're worth in Bench) then score or delete them as they happen. On the rare occasion I'm not doing horribly in Tipspiel, I may keep a tab open for it. And then day 15, I'm usually high enough in Oracle that I'll keep a notepad window open tracking the matches that affect the relative scores of the contenders. Athenayama 1,080 Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) Entries for Toto, SG, BS and DST are copy/pasted in a Word file. I also copy/paste my opponent's picks for SG and BS. The rest of the daily games are hand written on a paper. Edited March 22, 2023 by Athenayama
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 22, 2023 I am totally analogue and hate using computers for anything unless absolutely necessary. That's why I write it down.
Rocks 1,809 Posted March 22, 2023 I'm assuming you mean track it while watching. As my time zone prevents me from doing that outside of weekends I rarely do it except the last day when I will tally my score and maybe the leader's in Oracle as the matches go. Not needed this basho. If I do watch live I will keep a tap open of my bench and SG matches. I watch on a PC attached to my tv so it's in a tab. Everything else I just remember what I picked for the most part and track it in my head. Others, like ODD, i try to forget so I can be surprised. Tracking Toto is pointless. I remember my picks and if I get north of 20 as the matches go I figure I won, otherwise not. It's amazing how often I check Toto after and see it's opposite what I figure with a 16 winning or a 20 losing. I pay no attention to DST unless I'm near the top which very rarely happens. I dislike tracking matches I'm not very interested in which is what games like ISP and DST are dealing with usually. I pay no attention to how other players are doing until I get to KK, or well into that territory, in a game.
Jakusotsu 6,049 Posted March 22, 2023 Missing ChainGang for obvious reasons and Odd because I'm done at the moment.
Tetsuba 33 Posted March 22, 2023 I use a spreadsheet importing the torikumi from SumoDB, where I try to predict each bout's outcome, and pick accordingly afterwards.
Oortael 153 Posted March 22, 2023 I have multiple Excel files actually : one following the banzuke and the daily bouts (with my picks), one for Bench & SumoGame, one more file with one tab for each SB game.
Gernobono 467 Posted March 22, 2023 following the action live most days i use a spreadsheet
Pitinosato 120 Posted March 22, 2023 Oh my god what you do !!! I think I have to gear up technically Right now I do everything manually for my daily entries For the final results of the games at the end of the Basho I use Excel, but that's more for statistical reasons Pitinosato
Pitinosato 120 Posted March 22, 2023 For the pre Basho Games like SO/Hoshitori/Upside Down Hoshitori/Juryo Game I use an Excel sheet to decide my teams, I use this sheet also to calculate my daily (SO: final) points in this games
Sumo Spiffy 579 Posted March 22, 2023 I have a Google Sheet for Guess Kiri's (or whoever's) Aite, but beyond that I just keep whatever email records are sent. If you're talking about tracking things during the matches, I'm in possibly Earth's Worst Timezone for Following Sumo Live, so that's not something I need to concern myself with. Fujisan 533 Posted March 22, 2023 And I thought I took the games seriously... I cant post my sheet but a rough idea would be- ISP W 8-3 TOTO L Feck, feck, feck SQ W 9-2 ODDS W 28.88 BS W 7-4 TTT W 5-6 Tips Feck, feck, feck BTC ? JW's ? Tug ? San/Car ? Normally check team games later unless they are going well.... I will check the team games later....
Konosato 45 Posted March 22, 2023 I'm also completely analogue, so I write the forecasts by hand on paper, but less chaotic than Pandaazuma I have time since I'm retired.
Joaoiyama 313 Posted March 22, 2023 Kind of just watch the matches, see the results of the games and keep lots of mental notes about rikishi, circumstances or whatever else involving the basho or the games. Only last basho i got to know about the bench sumo group, so yeah never even knew who i was up against until i saw the results, used to always be confused when people commented knowing they were up against me. Seeing how you guys track your games made me realize i need to step my game up.
Bunbukuchagama 771 Posted March 22, 2023 I just have a piece of paper with checkmarks for daily games (to make sure I haven't forgotten to submit my entry). The rest is in my head. As a result, I don't even remember all my picks every day.

To be honest I only posted how I keep track of my results,if I include how I keep track of my entries,my paper looks as bad as the Pandas and like you I soon forget my pick...Sometimes between games so picks can change game to game. Yarimotsu 592 Posted March 22, 2023 I'm very much in the set-and-forget camp, which is why you'll see me in a lot of pre-basho games and only the most simple daily games. A spreadsheet for GTB calculations and results and one for Game 21 so I can set it up. Perhaps in 50 years I'll have time to get into more daily games. Sakura 1,495 Posted March 22, 2023 I wake up and check how I manage to lose in Bench today. I don't usually check the dailies, except every so often, since I feel that what I pick is not determined very often by how I'm doing. Last basho's Chain was unusual in that regard. I knew I had to keep picking low Juryo to stand a chance of the Yusho, which I did end up winning. For most, I just check my standing at the end of the basho, and I rarely check the banzuke. It came as a shock to me that I am an Ozeki in ISP.
Oshirokita 192 Posted March 22, 2023 I have never been as detailed to follow games stats. I used to record all my picks in a spreadsheet to follow all the games live BUT I found I was getting too invested in how I did in the games and was losing my love of sumo (I.e. Rooting against my favourite rikishi if their loss would help me in a game). For a while I retired from a bunch of games and just enjoyed sumo for sumo. When the Meta sumo game arrived I decided to play most of the games again in case someone (me) wanted to pick me in Meta. However, I still do not follow my game results live (except for Bench on occasion if I can stay up late enough). i keep a spreadsheet of the torikumi to play GKA and have a checklist of daily games so I remember to enter them all each day (but I don't record my picks). i do, however, follow rikishi stats between basho and have a massive database of results, rikishi profiles and relative strength analyses which I use to pick my teams prebasho (to mixed results). I have been improving in Bench and Oracle, but I am hopeless at SG and Quad.
Kintamayama 45,527 Posted March 22, 2023 After a day of bouts is done, I immediately pick the ISP match for the next day and enter my guess. Then I play Hashi (a Japanese game you should all be playing but I'm the only foreign player I think..) TTT, ODD, Quad, Chaingang if I'm still alive. Tipspiel. Pause for a cuppa. Toto, Sumo game, then Bench last. Go by instinct. Once upon a time I used to follow my guesses live in Bench and sumo game while chatting with other players, but those days are long gone with doing the videos. Not a single scrap of paper or spreadsheet. Usually done in 15 minutes. That's why I suck in most games, but I have my fun. Then, I check the pre-basho game standings, which I know has no meaning, but still.
Balon 4 Posted March 23, 2023 Maybe I should track more. I just have all the games bookmarked so I visit the daily ones to make my picks. I only check up on the pre-basho ones at midway point and end of basho
Rocks 1,809 Posted March 23, 2023 I will say I print out the banzuke to write down the record I think everyone will get to do my Oracle entry. As far as making picks each day I do exactly the opposite as suggested. I don't use Toto to determine who I think will win each match and then use that to enter the others. Instead I open the Toto entry and then start entering each game going down from the Top of Super Banzuke that I am still in and fill in each winner in Toto from what I picked in the other games. This makes each game easier if a pick has already come up in the games I already entered. Often ISP is a forgone conclusion for me by the time I get to it as the match came up in Bench or DST, or both, first. Then after getting to the bottom I make any picks ibn Toto I haven't done already. Which is mostly just Juryo. this works well really except for ODD where I will sometimes pick, like last night, the opposite of a match as I did in Toto. etc.
