Tate-gyoji Shikimori I no see ke had his 10th sashichigai today since ascending the throne in 2019. Then, as per the usual routine, offered his resignation, which was, per the usual routine, not accepted.

Well now we know he is above cat level since he’s now on his 11th life

Can anyone enlighten me why abema transcribes Kotoshoho as "KOTOSYOHO"?

I really hate those transcribes. Can' t everyone write shikonae like the Kyokai does? Annoying.

Methinks..Tamawashi is finally nearing his sunset, a great career, particularly for an oshi wrestler.

We've got Yokozunas. We've got Ozekis. We've got Asanoyamas. Well, one of each. How much better can it get?

Takarafuji's sumo has been mystifying so far. Three dominant wins including Hokuseiho and two abject losses.

Severely lacking on power but in my (biased) opinion probably the best non-yotsu technique in the salaried ranks (realising I don't really have good descriptors for his technique - I think he's at his best before anything locks up into belt-on-belt sumo, in the "let's hold hands" and "haha can't grab me, let me push with my head and shoulders" stages). He looks scared to take any weight from his opponent, hopping backwards against heavy but well-balanced opponents. Saw a great opportunity to teach a young Mongolian that he has much to learn about establishing a grip and balance in the ring. Saw someone around the size he is still comfortable tackling in Takanosho.

Hokuseiho will be an amazing Yokozuna. How he's casually standing there, calmly weathering out all attacks. Imagine the boy finally figure out, how to go beast mode.

I remember another tall rikishi who we all said would be amazing when he got some experience and a bit more seasoning.  We'll be seeing his top-knot chopped in the coming months.  Hokuseiho has a fine career ahead of him, but he's going to have to learn some aggression and improve.  He's still very young though, so I've still got hopes for him.

Long covid. He has been affected more than Mitakeumi.

Prior to 2020, he used to have long bouts. Post infection, everything is settled within 30 seconds.

Hidenoumi hobbling off the dohyo after his win over Daiamami.

Very quietly, almost secretly, Tamashouhou is emerging. He got his KK last basho while nursing an injury, 12 years in sumo slaving in makushita for 8 of them. With Tamawashi obviously injured and maybe closer to retirement, he looks like he will be leading the 3 rikishi heya for years to come, although he is already 30 years old. Anyhow, he's been doing great  sumo.

Varying levels of competition notwithstanding, Asanoyama is currently 52-5 since returning from suspension.

Yet he's bested by Asanowaka in that category. From looking like makuuchi was a matter of time, to sandanme-bound.

Seems like Shodai has taken over Kaisei's mantle -- today it was definitely Shodai A on the dohyo. Unfortunately on the rest of the days this basho it's been mostly Shodai B.

Yeah I'm an admirer of his ottsuke too. I remember a couple of years ago him outfoxing Hakuho who just couldn't get the grip he wanted. Hakuho had to resort to a kotenage in the end.

Not surprised to see him lose to Onosho today but still hoping for a mild (as always) kachikoshi.

He was holding his leg again after Day 1 bit thankfully looks like he's shaken it off.

Man, that roundhouse slap started somewhere in Asakusa.  Problem is, he telegraphed it so much that Oshoma had the "vertical slap" ready when he lurched off-balance.

Is this the coming of the new Akua, "Salty Slapperson"?
