Oh no. That doesn't sound great.

Why? He's just saying he's lazy.

So he didn’t and still doesn’t have a plan for what to do post-Ōzumō. I suppose that the proceeds from his danpatsushiki will tide him over until he finds something to keep himself occupied.

On that note, perhaps he could auction off the tomebasami role to raise some extra cash, seeing as Minato is persona non grata.

Has  a hotel name been confirmed for his danpatsushiki?

I am thinking of attending but can't find any information on it.

It seems to be on the same day as the 1 day knock out tournament in Tokyo.

The people behind this Twitter account are apparently in charge of organizing Ichinojo's danpatsu-shiki. As per the linked tweet, people interested in attending/participating may send an email to the address given until the 25th of November in order to receive further details.

Ichinojo's danpatsu-shiki takes place this Sunday, February 11th, at the Tobu Hotel Levant in Sumida, starting at 4pm. It's obviously not far from the Kokugikan, but given the clash with the Fuji TV tournament it makes me wonder if any sumo world people will be in attendance at all.

The way he's gone about this is all too reminiscent of his approach on the dohyo.

Over 200 pics out of a basho day is quite a task to handle - and for 3 different events

Ichinojo - still over 200kg -  had about 420 cutters in the hotel at his danpatsushiki, including about 130 fans who applied by SNS etc. - as expected without the oyakata, head coach and headmaster Ishiura from Tottori Johoku high made the last cut. Several other NSK people were, even Kakuryu, who was commentator for the Fuji cup that day. About the plans from now on: "I have to do something, I'll think about it from now on." "Going back and forth between Japan and Mongolia, I want to start a family and have a proper living"

Looks like it was a perfectly respectable danpatsu shiki after all, glad to see.

420 seems a fairly big amount of cutters, more than average for sure. Just checked and around 380 were reported for Kakuryu for example. Good for Ichinojo!

I'm actually surprised he managed to get hold of a gyoji (or someone dressed up as a gyoji?) to hold the scissors. Did he still get support from a heya for his event?

That is former Chiganoura-beya gyoji Kimura Masatoshi, who quit as Sandanme-kaku some six years ago if memory serves. I understand he was also in the Sanctuary series, which I haven't seen so I don't know how much screen time he had. A gyoji-for-hire I guess.

In that case he's promoted himself to juryo.

Anyone know what qualifications are required to be a ronin gyoji? Asking for a friend.

You need to have a high competence in handling scissors well enough to keep the pointy end away from geriatric danpatsushiki patrons so that they don't accidentally cut themselves and endanger their ability to generously patronize many other future sumo events.

Also, in case you end up officiating any sumo bouts, you have to commit at least twice as many sashichigae as Kimura Shonosuke, otherwise the Kyokai will send their hit squad consisting of the current sumo school class headed by top hitman ex-Akiseyama slowly jogging after you.
