Aki 2023 Superbanzuke Masters Series

Recommended Posts

Hiya, I just computed the Superbanzuke Aki Masters Series (permalink).

Oskahanada has won his second career Green Mawashi with relative ease, amassing more than 80 Masters points at Aki Basho. He received yusho in Norizo Cup, Sekitori-Quadrumvirate, and Upside Down Hoshitori. He also finished runner-up in Turn the Tide, among six other Top 10 performances.

With an overall second place and three double digit performances (yusho in Roto Sumo, jun-yusho in Salarycap Sumo and Sekitori Oracle), Torafujii won the shukun-sho, his first Superbanzuke sansho ever.

Norizo has won his ninth career gino-sho, extending his own record for most Technique Prizes. He was impressive on both the daily scene (e.g., Tippspiel and Quad) as well as in pre-basho games (e.g., jun-yusho in Ozumo Bingo Game).

Somewhat surprisingly, after winning eight Green Mawashi and 13 sansho, Susanoo is awarded his his first career kanto-sho for finishing among the Top 10 in seven different games.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Also updated: the standings of the World Championship after Aki Basho. I feel eerily reminded of last year. Last September, Oskahanada was sporting a 23 point lead over Susanoo (and lost to the latter in Kyushu Basho). Now we have a similar situation, with Oskahanada leading over Susanoo with a 19-points margin. Though he lost the pole position, Kaito is very much in the race, trailing Oscar by 20 points. Pandaazuma, Norizo, Gonzaburow, and Joaoiyama already have to overcome about 50 points differential to vie for the trophy - it's a long shot but not entirely inconceivable. Seven other players (for a total of 14 players) go into Kyushu Basho with triple digits.

Time to assess the damage, I suppose...

Disappointing basho for me. Halfway through, it felt like I had a lot of yusho chances and was contending for the Green Mawashi again. Then I faded hard in the games where I was doing best and came up empty. Without the Roto mistake, I would've had 8 top tens, but all small change. Most everything else was close to that level. I could see Oskahanada was crushing in every game though. Impressive showing, to be sure. I'll need to gambarize to the best of my ability in Kyushu.

I'm very happy to have won my second green mawashi this year for a total of....(let me recap my whole career for a minute(Thinkingindepth...))....ah, yes, 2.

I was leading in 6 games on day 10 (though the Oracle "lead" is unreal by that stage). I managed to pull through in 3 of them at least. Not thanks to Kagayaki (Iwasstupid...), mind you, who, after costing me the world champ last year by stupidly losing on Kyushu senshuraku, took the TTT yusho away from me by winning stupidly on senshuraku this time. Good news is the muppet will be in juryo next basho, so there are some games where he can't bug me at least.

The good part of my choking was that although I lost on Quad on senshuraku, my ability to not pick Atamifuji at all on the basho gave me the yusho (really love the game, very proud of it)

Also, I finished 2nd on MCP on Bench (by choking on senshuraku, yes) and managed a measly 9-6 after finally being on MU. Meanwhile Panda-zuna gets 12-3 yusho because opponents roll over at his mere sight, but maybe I cannot complain seeing Golynohana (3rd on MCP) going 6-9 somewhat near me on the banzuke. Also also, I was top scorer in SG and got the yusho but somehow I didn't get my 15 points. Somebody might claim I won it in juryo, but that's clearly an excuse to rob me of my hard earned points. Just hoping I can get to MU for Kyushu, it's gonna be really close.

Still, as I was a big fan of Kisenosato (until I wasn't) and I'm also pretty keen on Takayasu (though also that keenness is fading), I don't believe you can expect another choke from me at the finish line after being inspired by such paragons of clutchness.

So, all in all, great basho for me. Looking forward to certify my 2nd world championship in a row, (because everyone knows the last one was rigged because Rando didn't stop the count and I had the best picks and there were people putting picks on the mail and they were dropping bags of picks with vans and there were a bunch of players who didn't bring their best picks, but I assume some of them are good people).

See y'all in Kyushu.

Mono-ii!

@Randomitsuki

Please check results/points in Sekitori Oracle again. Players finishing with the same amount of points (e.g. 561 or 560) in the final standings as usual should get the same amount of SB Masters points.

.........

- Oscar: That's bad

- Ganzo: But....you are winning points

- Oscar: That's good

- Ganzo: Susanoo is also winning points

- Oscar: That's bad

- Ganzo: I'm 8th/11th and scored no points on Rando's official standings

- Oscar: ......(Idunno...)

- Ganzo: That's bad.

- Oscar: Can I go now?

@Oskanohana

Please check again. Are you sure Susanoo will be winning additional points here?

Oscar: Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?

Ganzo: I'm Ganzo, King of the Visigoths

Oscar: My liege! (Bow...)

You are in fact right, I just looked at the wrong column, I suppose. Susanoo-Biden should be getting half a point less, further proof that last worlds was stolen by a far east conspiracy.

Of course I expect some reward here. A few bottles Gran Reserva from Rioja plus a few kg Jamón Serrano Reserva will be fine.

That's bad...(for my economy)

I can offer you a frogurt and you can get your choice of topping.

Congrats everyone! I'm really pleased with my 3rd place. At some point I thought Oskanohana was going to win all of them!

That Onosato loss on Senshuraku robbed me of a Juryo Game yusho, but happy anyway!

I somehow failed to make a Norizo Cup entry (Eh?) I probably fell asleep before clicking the confirm button.

And congrats to Joputosu who won SalaryCap on his debut! I count that as a success of my recruitment for SB games on Italian fans Telegram channels.

Standings for the Masters and the World Championship have been amended. Oskanohana's closest pursuer for the World Championship is now Kaito.
