Muhomatsu 246 Posted October 23, 2023 A friend of mine has to bail out of his participation in the sumo and sushi event in Seattle on Saturday Nov 25, at 5PM and is looking to offload the tickets. The tickets are viewing only - 5PM. But they include the "get in the ring experience" - so you can actually climb onto the dohyo and test your sumo skills against a former sumo wrestler (including ex-Daikiho, ex-Kirinowaka, ex-To'oyama, and even Sanctuary's Enya, ex-Chiyonoshin). I did this in the Washington DC Sumo and Sushi tour and the "get in the ring" experience was one of the coolest things I have ever done! Face value of the two tickets and the "get in the ring" is $363. Get in the ring tickets are sold out, so this is the only chance to get them for a fair offer. Contact me if you are interested in the tickets. Again - Seattle. Saturday Nov 25. 5PM Show. Viewing only for two. Get in ring ticket for one.
sumojoann 1,268 Posted October 24, 2023 I have a friend who lives near Seattle who is a big sumo fan. I sent him your information about the tickets and will post again when he responds.
sumojoann 1,268 Posted October 24, 2023 https://theticket.seattletimes.com/top-picks/sumo-sushi-wamu-theatre/ Here is an article in yesterday's Seattle Times about the Sumo and Sushi event. What's odd is that it doesn't mention anything about the public being able to get in the ring with the rikishi, although maybe the reporter chose not to include this information since those tickets are already sold out. I still think it should have been mentioned.
sumojoann 1,268 Posted October 24, 2023 https://www.sumoandsushi.com/ More information about the West Coast Tour. Konishiki is the host. I was surprised to see that ex-Takagenji is one of the rikishi! If my friend ends up buying the tickets, I'll be sure to tell him not to pick Takagenji when he gets in the ring! lol
Muhomatsu 246 Posted October 24, 2023 Thank you SumoJoann. I hope to hear from your friend. The "in ring" experience is totally awesome. Especially for a big sumo fan. Just the chance to step up against someone who was an active wrestler is amazing! Have your friend make a reasonable offer!
sumojoann 1,268 Posted October 25, 2023 I’m sorry, @Muhomatsu, my friend just wrote to me & said he wouldn’t be able to go to the event, so unfortunately, he won’t be buying the tickets. I’m sorry. I hope your friend is able to find someone to buy them.

You might consider trying to find out if there's a sumo club in Seattle and let them know. Since all of the "get in the ring" tickets are sold out, I think there might be at least one person who really wanted one and is just sitting there, disappointed, not knowing that there's one available (and of course, one regular ticket). You also could check the universities for sumo clubs. In addition, you might want to contact the promoter of this event and maybe they know of someone who wanted a ticket & couldn't get one. You can contact them either by using the form in this link or by sending them an email (email address is listed in the link). There's no phone # to call. sumojoann 1,268 Posted October 27, 2023 If you still come up empty, as a last-ditch effort, you could try to find someone in San Francisco or Los Angeles (the other 2 stops for this tour) who might have friends and/or family in Seattle & who might want to fly up to visit them & also take the opportunity to get in the ring. Someone who couldn't get "get in the ring" tickets in SF or LA. And since it's Thanksgiving weekend, that's even more of a reason to get together with out-of-town friends and family. I fully realize that this tour is really designed for tourists and people who are interested in sumo but know little about it. However, the "get in the ring" with an actual Japanese ex-professional sumo wrestler is something that would appeal to more than just tourists. I feel confident that you will find someone by exploring all possible avenues and with a bit of luck. Other ideas --- You could put an ad in the local newspapers. And if the promoter allows it, your friend could find someone to go to the venue on the day of the event maybe an hour or so before it starts, and try to sell the tickets there. (If the promoter allows them to do this, they would probably have to agree not to discount the tickets. Or scalp them). Good luck!

Muhomatsu 246 Posted November 14, 2023 The tickets are still available. If you, or anyone you know in the Seattle-area, wants the tickets - just make an offer. I will put you in touch with the seller. Make us an offer!
Itachi 396 Posted November 22, 2023 I'm surprised Achiyama is not responding to this as he lives in the area! I'd be tempted, but I'll stay in Vancouver for a night of music hosted by New Age Doom in their Chinatown studio. https://www.musicworks.ca/featured-article/new-age-doom-steps-forward https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/new-age-doom-tuvaband-there-is-no-end/ New Age Doom's guitarist is also a sumo fan, I learned recently. Maybe his music will resonate with some of you?
