Training restarted at Shikoroyama-beya, under the new shisho - still by the name of Tatsutagawa. The altar close by, with the portrait and the ashes of Terao.

Kirishima trained at the heya, the basics and muscle training. He wants to get into the 150kg range till the basho. At his 2 yusho he was 148kg and 147kg, now after a cold during the jungyo he is down to 142kg.

Hakuoho for the first time after surgery took part in keiko today, only the basics of course: "I want to do sumo (training bouts) soon", nearly no pain now. About the basho: "Of course I'm preparing with the intention to enter"

Kirishima was at degeiko to Tokitsukaze-beya and did 18 bouts there with Wakamotoharu and Nishikigi, who also came for degeiko, 6-0 with Nishikigi and 6-6 with Wakamotoharu. Tomorrow he also wants to be there and end of keiko this year is planned for the 29th

Oitekaze-beya:

Hitoshi plans to enter the basho - he injured a ligament of his right ankle on day 2 of his new juryo basho but didn't go kyujo, he finished 2-13 and dropped back again. In addition to ligament damage he also had a detachment bone fracture at the ankle.

Daieisho did 12 bouts, with Endo and also with Daiamami

Miyagino declared that Hakuoho will likely be ready for the basho. He's doing the basics now and is lending his chest for butsukari geiko - "Looks like fast recovery." Bouts are planned for the start of the year, but he doesn't want him to act unreasonable: "I want to decide in consultation with the man himself"  http://hochi.news/articles/20231227-OHT1T51129.html?page=1

That is the best joint practice video I've seen, makes up for missing Kirishima v Hoshoryu last basho. I didn't know there were so many top sekitori in the one ichimon.

[Edit: I see from Akinomaki's post that some of them were visitors]

Busy morning today, as two rengo-keikos were held. Isegahama Ichimon and Nishonoseki Ichimon were active.

Isegahama, held at Kasugano  Miyagino beya:

Terunofuji had nine bouts, going 8-1 against Takarafuji and Nishikifuji. He was in attack mode and looked good. "I have been doing what I can," he said, seen doing ten bouts a day for a while now.

New Juryo and great hope Takerufuji had 22 bouts today in his first ever rengo-keiko experience. "I was nervous.." he stated.

Nishonoseki, at Takadagawa beya:

Kirishima was there, the only one not belonging to the Ichimon, 17-9 against the likes of Shounannoumi (4-0), Kotonowaka (5-1) , Oonosato (4-1), Takanoshou (2-1), and finally while worn out, Takayasu (2-6).. "I didn't do so well against Takayasu-zeki, but I was able to do keiko that will connect to the next step. It's important to give it your all even if you lose. I wanted to do 30 bouts, but I was totally exhausted.. If I can overcome that and actually do 30 bouts a session, it will be good, since I only started training yesterday.. I'll be coming here again tomorrow. I want to do more bouts.. I called on Oonosato the newbie because his body is large and there are great expectations of him" he said.

Takayasu: "It was good keiko. I was able to hit well and felt I did my own sumo. My aim for the new year is to return to Ozeki, but first, double digit wins this basho.."

Oonosato was 2-7. "I was shocked when Kirishima called me out (1-4). He is last basho's yusho winner, so it was my intention to borrow his chest.. I am still very weak. My aim is kachikoshi. I will be training very hard this coming week " he said. His one win against Kirishima came via oshidashi.

Takakeishou? Nowhere to be seen. "He injured his neck. It's not getting any better so he'll have to live with the pain..He is only doing the fundamentals at the moment. No sumo yet. I apologize for him not being able to train," said his Oyakata  Tokiwayama.

Kotonowaka did not do well against Kirishima, 1-5. He had 16 bouts in all and was 9-7 (8-2 against the rest..) "I didn't have many bouts, but what I did I did properly.. I was thankful to be called out by the Ozeki. I felt I would do all I could. I will be facing tomorrow with the same feeling, I guess.." he said. "I trained against opponents I'm not used to training against, so naturally in some cases I couldn't do my own sumo. I need to somehow do my own sumo in those cases as well. New year? Try to go higher, as there still is where to go.." he said. He was promised the Kotozakura name if he makes it to Ozeki. "There's the shikona thing, so I'll be doing my best to achieve that. I will properly prepare myself and aim for that.." he summed.

2nd day of Nishonoseki-ichimon rengo-geiko, today at Sadogatake-beya in Matsudo, Chiba, with only 14 sekitori now (other sources say 15), including as guest Kirishima, but 16 oyakata - the biggest ichimon has 15 heya
