Just was thinking about it as maybe Kaisei might bring someone over from Brazil?

IIRC, because of heya transfer Kaisei was one of two foreigners in the heya (was it Kyokushuho?)

Harumafuji is trying to beat Takanoiwa with a broken bottle

Harumafuji's loss still pains me to this day. By all accounts the guy was a model rikishi who made one fatally bad move, and it cost him everything.

Sorry mods for going on this tangent.
The basho right after Kyokutenho yusho’d, Tomozuna-Oshima merger happens, there were 3 foreigners (all sekitori) in the heya, Kyokutenho, Kaisei and Kyokushuho.

But Kaisei only went to Asakayama after becoming a coach, so iirc Asakayama never had a foreigner so far.

Sorry for luring you onto the tangent, but it was a comment on your wondering whether conjoined heya could breach the one-foreigner rule.

Terunofuji to Isegahama Heya after Magaki heya closed down while Harumafuji was active.

When will the NSK change the twitter profile banner? - Still prominently featuring Hokuseiho1080x360

Yeah, but they all were already in sumo and just merged, just wondering how it would affect recruiting a foreigner

As @Asashosakari said, it doesn't look like Asakayama ever wanted to. But I guess he won't be allowed to either.

The heya as a whole will be absorbed by Asakayama for now, I hear.

Heya as a whole but minus Hakuho who's going to Isegahama for retraining? (It's hard to keep up with this!)

The JSA specifically rejected plans to separate rikishi and shisho, they will all go to the same stable together (yeah its too fast)

Discussions still ongoing between the Kyokai leadership and Asakayama-oyakata, according to multiple papers, so while that does appear to be the favoured solution both by the executive as well as the ichimon now, it may not be a done deal yet. Or perhaps they're just delaying until after senshuraku, I dunno.

If I was Asaskayama-oyakata I'd hold out as long as possible to maximize hardship compensation to house the extra rikishi.

As I'm an idiot with too much free time, the search of the "watermark" made me enter one of those internet rabbit-holes. But mind you, you shall not listen to false prophets unless they've been Touched by His Noodly Appendage.

Still, much appreciated detail. I tip my proverbial hat to you, sir.

Why, thank you. I had used it once before, ages ago. But nobody waded to into it. So late compensation, I guess.

Just to derail the thread a little more (sorry, not sorry), as I was in conspiracy theory mode, I realized that maybe @yorikiried by fate had put extra easter-eggs (no pun intended with the shape and and origin of the gentlemen in the picture)...

First I saw this top left.

image.png.65b963988830627c804aa6124e2b574a.pngHas he put a random white guy in there with a towel over his shoulders??? Wait, no, that actually seems to be Shishi in his kimono-thingy-thingy

Then, this in the middle

image.png.19498881ecc3c2bbfca42caf33bf540a.pngWhat the fack's up with those floating faces. Has he put random cropped faces just for the sake of it? Or is Shimazuumi (methinks) just leaning stupidly?

Congrats, by the way,to the guy highlighted in yellow. His scalp really made it into the group photo.

But no, everything's in the original picture. Hilarity can be found anywhere, I guess. At least for me.

Nothing substantially new. Asakayama made a short statement today, confirming that discussions are underway and that he has given his point of view on the matter to the Kyokai executive, but that he doesn't know how things will ultimately turn out. Sanspo claims that the board meeting to make the decision will only take place after Haru basho has concluded. Nikkan, meanwhile, continues to present the view that the ball is essentially in Asakayama's court at this point and it's up to him to give his final agreement to the board/ichimon-favoured solution. Acting shisho Tamagaki, for his part, hopes that everything will be decided by early April so that the erstwhile Miyagino-beya rikishi have sufficient time to settle into the new situation before the May tournament.

Not to be one-upped by Oscar, I searched for the pipe guy on my own. Apparently, bashing religion has been a thing for far longer than I had previously thought. In any case, good work as usual, YBF.

Decided now: about 20 rikishi and Hakuho go to Asakayama-beya. Asakayama (the new ichimon riji) had a talk with the executives and then with Isegahama: "I from my side can't say anything" http://www.sanspo.com/article/20240320-EVWGTWCXWNKLLIVE5ZJUDDWSH4/

Likely Ishiura will go there as well, but he isn't mentioned, nor the urakata - and the coaches (Daikiho etc.) will likely get sacked till the heya is reborn.

No mention yet of how many will retire.

And, BTW, the last victory of Kaio was pretty much a parting gift from Hakuho. The table shows it incorrectly as 2011.5, when in fact it was in March at the TET. So it was Kaio's last bout at the Kokugikan. On day 15 against the dai-Yokozuna. It was all part of a farewell tour which also saw Kaio stay in contention at his home basho (Fukuoka) in November 2010 until very deep in the Tournament. Kaio finished that at an – in all readings – incredible score of 12-3. His previous double digits (as a bloody Ozeki) came 3.5 years earlier (10-5), his most recent 12-3 at that time was in Kyushu 2004, when he botched his Yokozuna run and Hakuho was practically not born yet...

Yeahyeah, tinfoil hat blahblah. It's just how it was, regardless.

But wasn't the TET actually in May? March tournament was suspended, they did the TET in May...Everywhere I look it says so, and I kind of remember it that way...

As for the tinfoil hat stuff, you're clearly wrong. The first and the final impressions are what matters, so Kaio clearly dominated the dai-yokozuna when it mattered. Also, Kaio, on his last tournaments, went on a deep run clearly motivated to restore national pride to the sport. Next you're gonna tell me Chiyotaikai's exceptional ozeki tenure was also extended way past his expiring date. Can you imagine that? Somebody like, I don't know, Baruto, throwing himself to the ground while doing a helicopter motion. That would be embarrassing. Keep your conspiracy theories to yourself, sir.

Poe's law, what is that?
