Koorifuu 924 Posted April 11, 2024 This is the first time I've ever seen sumo on the news in Portugal, and it was surprisingly well written w/ no factual errors, so they probably got it from somewhere else.
Akinomaki 40,150 Posted April 11, 2024 (edited) About 400 pics so far, more to come, so I'll wait at least till tomorrow for a memorial overview - I skip more than half of the pro wrestling pics and the pics of celebrities with him during that time. Danjinoumi 9 Posted April 12, 2024 There is a great YouTube clip of all of the Akebono - Takanohana matches. Whenever one would -taoshi the other off the dohyo, the winner would often reach out to be sure the other was OK. I doubt there were many rikishi that commanded that kind of respect from either of them.

I noted his absence from any of the tsuya pics. Is he persona non grata, or has he just totally divorced himself from his former life? Feels very peculiar for him not to show his face at the funeral of his great rival.

Yes the one, Taka has not even contact with his children, also dropped his supporters in his new life, who managed his office - now his office is run by his new brother-in-law. He commented on Akebono's death by a message from his office and also hasn't sent flowers to the funeral.

If his brother was there he wasn't going. He doesn't speak to any of his family. Probably doesn't want to see anyone from the Kyokai either
since_94 650 Posted April 16, 2024 So saddened by his passing at such a young age. His story and character were both inspirational. I have been guiding my university students as they learn about his remarkable life and indomitable spirit in the face of adversity, while somehow managing to remain humble throughout the journey. They are becoming experts on his life and achievements—all 280 of them, spread across 8 classes. Akebono’s indelible legacy will live on forever.

You don't even need to talk to anyone, just be present.
