Both Nishikigi's and Hoshoryu's bouts received 5 kensho from Takasu that day. However, on Day 1, Hoshoryu's bout had the token 1 kensho from Takasu (while Takasu placed nothing on Nishikigi's bout). My sense is that when the doctor is present (i.e., ringside at the Kokugikan), he likes to splurge a bit, i.e., draw more attention to himself. But for the time being, Hoshoryu is still the main recipient of Takasu's generosity.
