Asashosakari 18,957 Posted July 26 The day started off badly in the very first bout where 3-3 Musubiyama was yoritaoshied and seemingly snapped his head into the angled edge of the dohyo as his body came down. He ended up getting stretchered out, with kachikoshi in hand no less as a subsequent mono-ii determined that his opponent Yonezawaryu had overstepped the tawara during the move.

Musubiyama was accompanied to the hospital by Matsugane-oyakata (former Maegashira Tamarikido), as the shisho was serving as a shimpan at the time. Happily, CT and MRI scans revealed nothing worse than a concussion, so he will rest until he recovers and is already back at the heya. 4
Koorifuu 913 Posted July 26 I've only watched makushita & above, and that was enough to witness a handful of probable concussions throughout this basho. Happy to see there's one that's being handled properly.

Akinomaki 40,023 Posted July 28 Asanoyama will have surgery likely already this month - and then about 10 months till he can return to the basho (=Natsu 2025) - as sandanme again, but much lower than the last drop. The oyakata: "Of course he wants to return" https://www.sankei.com/article/20240728-SPJEQOGMMNNCZOJKJGIGOGJ7SA/
Katooshu 3,176 Posted July 29 (edited) Kusano was visible tsukebito-ing for Terunofuji on day 15, so I assume he's not too badly hurt. Edited July 29 by Katooshu
