Going to Tokyo

Recommended Posts

Yes, probably for the last time, I will be in Tokyo for Aki from the 16th till senshuraku, not included, as I leave in the morning of the 22nd. So videos will stop after day seven, regrettably, but fun for me. If anyone is interested in meeting up, well, I'll be there..

Arriving 14th until 30 (with a side trip to Incheon after the honbasho).

I should be staying around the Asakusabashi area.

About 10 months too early for me (albeit Nagoya). Enjoy! I'm sure the content that follows will more than make up for the lost days :).

"Well I'm goin' up to Tokyo,

Gonna take the  Shinkansen,

Yes I'm goin' up to Tokyo,

Gonna ride me that Shinkansen,

Guess I'll visit ol' Ko-ku-gi-kan,

'Til I go through my last yen.

Hope to see the Aki Basho,

Watch the Sekitori fight,

Wanna see that Aki Basho,

Watch them Sekitori fight,

If I can make it through the Yusho,

Gonna party through the night."

Rhyen met me a few hours ago

He took me to a meet and greet at Isegahama beya. Takerufuji and Atamifuji, Satorufuji and Kusano, Seihakuhou and Matsui. And the Oyakata. Pictures later.

Other than Kimigahama (Okinoumi) you have Kitajin (Tenkaiho), Chiganoura (Satoyama) and Onomatsu (Daido).

Great pictures, Kinta. Really seems you had a great time. Satoyama - what a feisty fighter (did he ever miss a tournament due to an injury?)- nice to see all of them healthy and enjoying themselves. Hope you would have the chance to make some more trips to Japan in the years to come.

Indeed. Kimurayama used to be part of that gang. :-(

The ex-Yokozuna looks so much different from his days as a sekitori.  In a business suit, he could pass for the head of the koenkai

But how did you manage to get invited?

I was invited by a member of this forum who is a member of the Isegahama Koenkai.

I have to chuckle the way you popped your head into most pictures. I do hope that you got to eat!

Be dishonest for a while, won’t you.

I imagined a different situation where you just rang the phone and said “hey it’s Moti, I am coming on Thursday for a dinner. Have the beers cooled and gather the boys for some motivational talk” and Isegahama dutifully complied.

Exactly what happened but instead of beer it should be club soda. And it was Monday. And I used a beeper.
