Akinomaki 40,729 Posted February 21 The NSK acknowledged today the makushita tsukedashi start for Goshima and Fukuzaki http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2025022101084&g=spo - always done shortly before the shindeshi kensa, so if we hear these news, we know a qualified one is in it, if not, that he's in a later one
Akinomaki 40,729 Posted February 21 On 12/02/2025 at 03:12, Asashosakari said: Nishonoseki-beya has recruited a middle school grad with a big body and, so the shisho hopes, big prospects. Haruma Uchima 内間悠天 (age not given, but presumably 15) hails from Ie, a moderately-sized village on the island of the same name in the Okinawa archipelago, and will be the second rikishi from the village after Hanaregoma-beya's Shimabukuro. Uchima has been doing sumo since his kindergarten days, with some success both within Okinawa prefecture and beyond, and now sports an astonishing 184 cm / 150 kg physique. Back in December (archive.org), he won the Ryukyu Shimpo Cup in his age group (with Ie Middle School also taking home the team victory), while in January he finished runner-up in the Kototsubaki Cup, another prefecture-level tournament. Nishonoseki-oyakata (ex-Kisenosato) visited the island last week for the customary greetings with the school and mayor, who promised Uchima that the whole island will be backing him to make it all the way to makuuchi. Nishonoseki complimented Uchima for his athletic abilities and highlighted his decidedly not middle school-like physique, and will try to raise him into a rikishi beloved by everyone. Uchima, for his part, aims to become yokozuna just like the shisho. He's leaving the island on the 22nd to start training at the heya the next day. Age 15 - 9m report from local NHK about Uchima and the visit of Nishonoseki - aim: yokozuna like the oyakata vid ex-Ryuho was his coach since he was a small child. He had injured his left wrist and in October the year before last had surgery - as 3rd year he couldn't do sumo till late last year, he only did the basics supervised by Ryuho, then shown at the Kototsubaki cup. He had an early graduation ceremony and leaves tomorrow to prepare for the shindeshi kensa.

In 3rd year he also took part in keiko at the sumo club. After classes, first half rugby, 2nd half sumo. Arranged by the coach he had an experience stay at the heya last October. Akinomaki 40,729 Posted February 21 (edited) For Takasago-beya Rikimaru Kyoda 京田力丸 (22, 184cm, 123kg) from the literature department at Chiba university, linguistics as field of expertise. No sumo club there, he privately went to the Todai sumo club for keiko. A still rare entry from a national university, Takasago-beya is the frontrunner in accepting national university graduates: Ichinoya was the first ever in sumo, Kyoda will be the 2nd for the heya. Black belt in judo, which he did from 5th grade till 1st year at Osaka Seiko gakuin high school. He skipped the job search and concentrated on becoming a rikishi. On the 5th he phoned the heya, telling them his wish to join, 2 days later he had his first visit there. The name Rikimaru caused astonishment - ideal for a shikona (there was one: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=1533). He plans to join the heya before the shindeshi kensa (on the 1st in Osaka). o Edited February 21 by Akinomaki 2
