I only noticed today that Kamito's kyujo has unusually been declared to be as of Day 7 even though he withdrew with the Day 5 crowd. Side effect of his third bout having been scheduled for Day 4 already.

In another unusual twist, Kamito isn't on the kyujo list at all any more and fought and won today against Daishomaru!

...which says a lot more about Daishomaru than it does about Kamito, since the latter was struggling to mount (and leave) the dohyo to begin with.

If you can stand upright, you can fight. This is the ozumo way.

Perhaps but if you can't fight well then better not fight at all. As far as I understand that's the reasoning behind many intai. I'm not saying Mitakeumi should retire, but at least rest until he can do his sumo again.

I wonder if this is a strategic move. With so many rikishi in Jonokuchi now using the strategy of entering the tournament for only the final bout, if Sananojo does the same he will likely have to face someone who is fairly strong. Whereas if he instead joins for the sixth bout, he can face a bonafide 0-5 opponent.

Yep, as predicted.  He won't be hanging onto Juryo by his teeth next basho, so no sense in injuring himself further.  He only had a band on his right arm on day 8, and didn't looked stressed by his yorikiri of Daiseizan, so he must have gotten injured later.

Pretty clear that he shouldn't have been competing but soldiered on in the hope of getting the six wins he needed to keep sekitori status. Once he dropped to 10 losses common sense came knocking on the door.
