Akinomaki 40,278 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) General ticket sales start on Dec. 7th, 10h JST sumo.or.jp/Admission/ticket/Jan/generalsale/627/ - IF there are tickets left by then, which is not something one should count on under the present Tyson (=Onosato & Takerufuji) sumo boom, because the pre-advance ticket lotteries have already started: today that for the well paying fanclub members, only for them the tamari-seki and the 4 person masu S seats are available, not in the later lotteries, so if they have some left, they are for grabs in the first seconds of general sales. On the 20th starts the lottery for also those who become a makuuchi rank fanclub member for just one month, on the 27th the general one on sumo.pia and on Dec. 3rd a new pre-reserve one for the general ticket.pia: at that also the 1-3 and 6 person masu seats are available, which were left for general sales so far. https://sumo.pia.jp/sumo01.jsp Edited January 11 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 40,278 Posted December 7, 2024 No info yet how many minutes it took for all tickets to be sold out - or if there were any left at all - immediate sell-out of course for the start of sales today https://sumo.pia.jp/vacant/va01.jsp

I realise it's too late for this basho. I'm looking for tickets for the 12 or 13th of jan if anyone has any leads! I haven't bothered to cancel mine yet as it's low enough cost that it doesn't really matter (about 500-550 yen a month). For the record, this strategy did work for me and I got 4x B chair seats for opening day through the lottery. I had asked for S or A as first priority but those were already unobtainable. If you do get tickets I might see you there! Good luck.

Edwardoho 23 Posted December 23, 2024 Does anyone know of any other good Japanese websites for re-sale tickets? There are quite a few on https://www.ticket.co.jp but wondered if there any other sites I can check. Thanks!
Akinomaki 40,278 Posted January 9 Looks like Terunofuji won't be kyujo this time, but at least one sekitori will be: Futagoyama announced that Roga could not properly prepare due to injury, he may enter later in the basho. Sd Kyoda is in rehab and also will be kyujo. https://x.com/futagoyama_sumo/status/1877215479938326825
Akinomaki 40,278 Posted January 10 Apart from Roga, Hokutofuji is kyujo and in juryo Bushozan https://www.sumo.or.jp/ResultData/absence/ The first dohyo matsuri as Shonosuke for the new one is broadcast live - as still usual, without rikishi present (only outside at the yusho portrait presentation)
Akinomaki 40,278 Posted January 11 (edited) First appearance with oicho for Onosato at the presentation of his 2nd yusho portrait with (then at least visible) chon-mage - Natsu, Aki - now again a Tokyo basho, so he should win it - Terunofuji now only wins the yusho when a basho starts at the last possible date and he has time enough to prepare, the last 3 he won started on the 14th o o oo ooo o o o o o o o after just his first yusho and first time on yokozuna run, Kotozakura definitely won't win this time oo o o o o o oo o o o oo from the sumochannel000 another later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US5CzM9aQBE Edited January 11 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 40,278 Posted January 11 The yusho portrait of Asanoyama was removed from the kokugikan wall to make room for that of Kotozakura - the first of Reiwa, together with the last of Heisei, one of Hakuho - all portraits there now are from the present Reiwa era o This basho, the Onosato ozeki bento has its debut o
Kaninoyama 1,741 Posted January 12 Entertaining opening day. One Yokozuna and one Ozeki down a bout. The two rope chasers start off with white stars.
Benihana 1,921 Posted January 12 Damn, overslept, saw only the last 6 bouts, but those weren't bad. Congrats to Tobizaru! I stick with my prediction: No more Yusho for Terunofuji and intai after the basho, when the hype for the Yokozuna promotion(s) is dying down a bit.
Tigerboy1966 1,436 Posted January 12 Hoshoryu looked exciting. Kotozakura looked solid, Terunofuji looked injured... so it's business as usual.
Hankegami 493 Posted January 12 (edited) Happy New Year and happy Hatsu basho to everyone!! Here we go with Day 16 of Kyushu Day 1 of Hatsu in Tokyo. Sorry, dejà vu. Hoshoryu and Kotozakura win convincingly, Onosato fares poorly, and Terunofuji is nowhere to be seen. I mean, it's still Kyushu, right? Or at least it looks a lot like it. I am also much aware that the fellings from Day 1 can be misleading, but - really, it fells like last November all around. Terunofuji was actually there - of course -, just to break his 9-streak win against Wakatakakage by falling for a katasukashi. WakaBro3 actually did a good job by denying Teru a grip and capitalizing his marching forward, but one expects the Yokozuna to be more careful at least with charging mindlessly. Teru will have a chance to make it up tomorrow vs. Takanosho - against whom he has a close 7-7 record. He must Yokozuna up, or he has to bow out by Day 5. The three Ozeki look all still in Kyushu shape. Kotozakura showed hinkaku against Takanosho himself. Patience, patience, patience, and a clean yorikiri. He's more and more like his father (although surely better), while nothing about gramps Raging Bull is to be found in his calculated demeanor. Hoshoryu got an entertaining battle with Kirishima, who at least looks somehow better than in Kyushu. The Nephew looked like in command from start to finish, though. He's the other guy who looks just like last basho, The double promotion dream lives after Day 1. Finally, Onosato made an early Terunofuji impression and got hikiotoshi'd by Tobizaru. Earlier this morning I happened to read a translation of Nihonhoseki's pre-basho column in a newspaper, where he hinted that Onosato didn't train enough because of festivities - and he was ok with that. I guess it says a lot about what we can expect from Daiki boy this tournament - but I could be wrong. A few more comments down the line. The two sekiwake - Wakamotoharu and Daieisho - looked just fine. Wonder boys Takerufuji and Onokatsu also gave a good start with a good look today. Hakuoho seems a low Maegashira ATM. He didn't really shine in his in questionable win against Kitanowaka. He can rake up wins down there, but he seems in a still unremarkable shape. Honor mention for shin-makuuchi Tamashoho, who won against elevator rikishi Kagayaki literally on the rope after a bout passed taking slaps left and right. A good debutant basho is much possible for him. Edited January 12 by Hankegami
Kaninoyama 1,741 Posted January 12 Not ready to write off Terunofuji just yet. May be just ring rust, and needs to regain his "sumo sense." Hopefully that's all it is...

dingo 1,258 Posted January 12 Happy new basho 2025! Just a few quick thoughts. Seeing Chiyoshoma at maegashira 5 is really weird. Good to see the agressive Oho back again this basho. Magnificent slapping contest between Daieisho and Gonoyama. Kotozakura taking it extra slow and careful against Takanosho. A bit of a contrast to Hoshoryu who came out all guns blazing. An upset against Terunofuji, or is it? Based on what was reported here before the basho he did not enter very prepared... but I agree with Kaninoyama, it's a bit early to write him off.
