GTB Hatsu 2025 - inviting you to partake - 217 entries, deadline has passed

Recommended Posts

The tricky part is that any leniency shown to both Churanoumi and Oshoma would necessitate overdemoting Midorifuji, and while that used to be a regular thing in the 1990s they've really not shown any inclination whatsoever since then; they'll happily fill available space by treating joi maegashira leniently, but not actually create room for it that's not already there. I suppose that does leave the possibility that Churanoumi got lucky and Oshoma did not, but at least to me that feels like the exact sort of thing that somebody on the committee would convincingly argue against. We'll see.

I do wonder how many entrants will have gone for the "so insane it almost makes sense" solution and put the 4-11's at M6...

I strongly considered either M8/M9 for them, or Churanoumi there and Oshoma at M11, but in the end didn't feel comfortable with either for the reasons above.

My humble attempt for the 7-8s and 8-7s in the middle of the banzuke:

Maegashira E7: Endo M7e (7-8)

Maegashira W7: Mitakeumi M7w (7-8)

Maegashira E8: Roga M8e (7-8)

Maegashira W8: Takayasu M9w (8-7)

Maegashira E9: Midorifuji M9e (7-8)

Maegashira W9: Ichiyamamoto M10e (8-7)

Maegashira E10: Takarafuji M10w (8-7)

Maegashira W10: Tamawashi M11e (8-7)

Maegashira E11: Meisei M11w (8-7)

Bullshit?

The current overall leader's entry (screenshot from the GSB podcast about it), with some interesting choices:

BTW, on a vaguely related note: Is it just me or are the current top 10 scores among the tightest ever? Less than 0.15 points from first to tenth...

People generally are putting Takayasu and Ichiyamamoto at M6.  If they are in your section as you show it, who's at M6?  Churanoumi and Oshoma I guess?

This is a sign that a lot of people are getting very good at the game.

It's like chess. At the highest level being a pawn down can be fatal: whereas at my level of chess it's like "Hey wait, didn't I have TWO bishops".

66, everything correct outside of M9-M14, but only 6/24 in that area. I hope the yusho score is over 70, or I'll be annoyed that I got the Takerufuji/Nishikigi coin flip wrong.

Same score obv. And the change I made did nothing. I did have Takerufuji/Nishikigi marked as a coinflip but Nishikigi behind makes little sense given Churanoumi and Oshoma's treatment. Seems like Midorifuji often ends up behind people he belongs in front of, as if Isegahama uses him as a bargaining chip to move his other guys higher. I think we'll be happy with 66, but a perfect score this time would've been much more realistic than usual.

68. Getting Daieisho/Waka wrong at least netted me a point for each.

Nishikigi wasn't in the joi. Chura and Oshoma were and got repeatedly blasted. That's where the line has generally been drawn of late. Doesn't explain Kotoshoho sliding ahead of Hokutofuji, though. If you want a comparison that suggests Nishikigi should have been in front of Takeru, I think Kotoshoho's the better connection.

Edit: What I'm curious about is if the winner has Chura and Oshoma at M9, and how they laid out everything else after that to not undo those correct choices.

FWIW, I mainly didn't see any compelling reason for Takerufuji to get the full-sized promotion at Nishikigi's expense because Onokatsu and Shonannoumi weren't going to get it either.

It honestly would have made more sense now for them to have put Nishikigi behind all three KKs, giving proper promotions all around, even if that's slightly against the numbers. (But so is Meisei in front of Midorifuji...)

62, with the differences between me and Asashosakari going:

Correct with Takerufuji <> Nishikigi offsetting wrong with Gonoyama <> Tobizaru

-4 for wrong on Chiyoshoma <> Hiradoumi and Daieisho <> Wakamotoharu

I myself was considering placing the M4 duo at M9, and since I didn't, they most likely will.

The banzuke committee clearly read this forum and find joy in spiting us :-P

Only 50 points, M7-M10 donut. Seems whenever I've reached the Top 10 there is only one direction... ---> South :-(

Yup. That's my experience as well. As I mentioned in an earlier GTB I feel like Nishikigi. Solid mid-level maegashira, but whenever I get a good (lucky?) run and get into the jo'i I get absolutely marmalised.

Still down, Christmas cometh, so I'm not optimistic this will be fixed in the next few days. My worry is not with GTB results, but with the games. We shall see. Sooner or later the results will be posted.

Do you have the results or can they not be properly compiled with the site down?
