Akinomaki 40,421 Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) 8 retirements announced - NikkanSP lists them in banzuke order - other papers have Kotoozutsu, the highest top ranked among them Hayanami 早南嶺 (Musashigawa) o Kotoozutsu 琴砲 (Sadogatake )- kyujo the last 2 basho o o o Chiyoresshi 千代烈士 (Kokonoe) - kyujo this basho o Daishosei 大翔成 (Oitekaze) o Kotoryusei 琴隆成 (Sadogatake) o Daishiyama 大志山 (Tatsunami) - to drop to bg o Kokiryu 煌貴龍 (Tatsunami) - absent the last 3 basho and bg o Nishikiori 錦織 (Isegahama) - absent the last 2 basho and bg o none from Nishiiwa Edit: I see that I unintentionally posted it in honbasho talk, usually it's in ozumo discussions - maybe it should be moved there Edited November 28, 2024 by Akinomaki 1

Koorifuu 991 Posted November 28, 2024 The lack of replies thus far says it all: a fairly low-key crop. Nobody really raises obvious question marks, as they all look like they've hit their ceiling and there's no public hint of any acrimonious circumstances behind their departures. All the best to everyone.

Many just don't seem to retire on time anymore (Azumaryu being a recent similar case). I can't fathom what Onosho is hoping to achieve by staying on. Maybe he is waiting for a kabu, or thinking he surely can't be done at just 28 - but the writing is on the wall.
Yubinhaad 11,659 Posted Friday at 21:04 I didn't get round to danpatsu-shiki pictures after the Kyushu basho for family reasons, but better late than never. Musashigawa-beya posted a few shots from Hayanami's danpatsu-shiki, which began and ended with commemorative group shots. Spoiler Meanwhile, Kotoozutsu and Kotoryusei had a joint danpatsu-shiki at Sadogatake-beya. Spoiler Kotoryusei with an oichomage outside. The retirees pose for a picture with the shisho (former Sekiwake Kotonowaka). Kotoeiho makes his cuts. The okamisan makes a cut for Kotoozutsu. And a commemorative picture after the cutting had finished. 3
