Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 5 Takanoshou, aiming to return to sanyaku, has wented today to Sadogatake beya for degeiko. "I will do my best to win in double digits," he promised. He had 20 bouts against Ozeki Kotozakura and others, pushing him back at times. "I will remember not to forget to constantly move forward!" he declared.
Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 5 (edited) Ozeki Kotozakura had 30 bouts today, winning 25, facing Takanoshou, Daieishou, Gounoyama and other folk. "I was able to do good keiko. I will be sharpening my body's responses," he said. When he was able to get a hold of his opponents' mawashi he was looking good. "I don't want to lose by power.." he sighed. His three opponents who came for degeiko are all pusher-thrusters, so he was looking for ways to counter their attacks. He is facing his first Yokozuna run. " I can only do what I can do..I have to go about it as usual," he explained. Tomorrow is the YDC soken. "I'll face the bouts one by one and do good, proper sumo," he summed somewhat later. Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 5 (edited) Sekiwake Daieishou was at Sadogatake as well, and had 19 bouts, going 2-6 against Kotozakura. "I was happy to be able to train with the currently strongest Ozeki. I am aiming upwards," he said. He hasn't been able to record double digit wins at sanyaku since Aki 2023. He needs ten wins or more to start an Ozeki run. "That's the first barrier. I want to properly accumulate those wins!" he said. Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 7 (edited) The Tokitsukaze Ichimon rengo keiko was held at the Kokugikan training institute today. Many sekitori present. Tamawashi- arrived out of the Ichimon, had 6 bouts against Daieishou, Wakatakakage and others and was 5-1. New Makuuchi Tamashouhou his stablemate was there as well, and at some point took over , faced Tobizaru, and lost. "This guy-I let him take over for one bout and he loses.." joked Tamawashi. "Seriously, this basho, more than myself, I'll be checking him out and hoping he does well.." said Tamawashi of his brother in law and stablemate. Wakatakakage: 15 bouts, 10-5. Looked quick and strong. "I was able to properly do good keiko today. As usual, I attacked from under and pressed forward," he testified.. This coming basho, his aim is to go for his 5th consecutive double digit win basho, bettering his personal best. "I'll just properly do my own sumo and hope the results will follow," he hoped. Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 7 (edited) Oonosato went to Sadogatake beya for to train he went. He faced fellow Ozeki Kotozakura for 14 bouts, going 8-6, winning 5 straight at some point. He also faced Ouhou and Takanoshou- 22 bouts in all. "It's not all about the numbers, but I was able to do some quality training. I'm in good shape and wish to maintain my health. Tomorrow, i will continue my quest while thinking of how best to do that," he said. "I think I did much better than yesterday. When I got my engine going, I did rather well," said Kotozakura, who lost a lot at first but did much better later.. Still not 100%. It's from here on, I guess.. I did a bit better than yesterday (3-4 against Oonosato)," he said. "When he got my mawashi, I could not do anything, " lamented Shoudai. Gurowake 4,035 Posted January 8 I swear sometime near the end of 2016 Tamawashi was replaced with a doppelganger who was just a bit better at sumo and many years younger. I find it incredible that after being a mediocre maegashira with one fluke sanyaku appearance up to that point that he went on to become a joi regular, win two Yusho, and then continue doing decently in Makuuchi until after he turned 40. Now he's training with the sanyaku and winning!
Kintamayama 45,011 Posted January 9 (edited) Yokozuna Terunofuji almost says he's in for Hatsu. He faced Nishikifuji and others at home today for nine bouts, winning them all. "All I can do is do it. If I don't succeed, I'll have to accept that, no matter what the results will be. I have done everything I can," he said. "If he says he's doing it, we have to respect that. If he decides to enter, he will be expected to make sure to get good results.." added Isegahama Oyakata, who I have a picture with. There is no reason for him not to enter, as he seems to be in decent shape and was working out doing some weights and fundamentals and all, observes the reporter. He also lent his chest to rising star Makushita 8 Matsui who I also have a picture with from Makushita, checking out his own ring sense."My ring sense has not fully returned yet so I'll have to make some adjustments slowly but Shirley these coming two days. It's a battle with myself, not with my opponents so I shall give it my all," he added. As the attention this coming basho is focused on Kotozakura and Houshouryuu with their double yokozuna quest, he will be vying for his 11th yusho.
