Still "only" 30 years old. How high will he climb again?

Oops, I overlooked these two guys' match on Day 1 - and apparently miscounted the day's bouts when I double-checked my list, to boot - so they're not kyujo. List above amended.

The official list is now available for all divisions at https://www.sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoMain/absence/.

M8 Roga (Futagoyama beya)

He injured his foot/lower leg (?) during butsugari at the Soken, lending his chest to a lower ranker (was captured on video). He had to be replaced by another sekitori to finish the session and a yobidashi threw some salt into the ring.

I am obviously not sure whether this is the exact reason for his absence, but I wouldn't be surprised.

It was reported today that he suffered a mild cerebral infarction in October, and had to rest and take medication.

He was Kyujo the last two basho of last year. Leading up to this basho, Isegahama Oyakata spoke of the importance of him entering and making it through Hatsu. He wasn't able to. The writing is on the wall.

Probably a coincidence this time. They probably settled their differences a few months ago since Tobizaru stopped going deliberately for his knees.

Showtime did not appear for his Johnny Dunn bout today. He was on the way to his first yusho being 2-0 and all. Very regrettable.

Jiji: Roga is headed out again, this time for good according to Futagoyama-oyakata, so that'll be 0-3-12 for him.

So that's 3 guaranteed openings in Makuuchi already...
