I was looking good until the bottom of the banzuke, but went 4/16 from 14w downwards.

My other zeros were Oho/Kirishima and Meisei/Takarafuji.

Flips were Ura/Kinbozan and Hakuoho/Endo

I have given up trying to find logic behind their decisions. Protect the injured vets - don't protect them, joi parachutes - no parachutes, wind resistance on the way up - no wind resistance... It feels like it changes randomly from one basho to the next.

Oh maybe they just have a rotation of the most inebriated oyakata who get to throw darts at the banzuke board.

Not sure what logic they used to break the tie as Ichiyamamoto-Ura-Kinbozan. The placements of Shodai and Atamifuji deviate pretty strongly from what they've done with the joi the last two banzuke. And I guess Churanoumi splitting Ryuden and Aonishiki is one of those things where there were two solutions that made sense and they ended up going with a much less sensible third one that splits the difference. –17 for me on just these guesses.

I actually put Churanoumi ahead of Ryuden, it made more sense to me. Lost 2 points on it.

I normally think "a 7-8 should only hold their position if there's no reasonable candidate to put there", but slowly over time what counts as a "reasonable candidate" I've made harder and harder, to the point where it was simply "does someone have the numbers to go ahead of them?", which is clearly wrong on both Ura and Tokihayate this banzuke.

Yeah, I considered that, but given how strongly they weighed joi bias for Kyushu and Hatsu, I (wrongly) bet on that winning out. And I guess Kinbozan is getting dinged for being M14, instead of rewarded for getting 12 wins and reaching a playoff...

Tokihayate is the most surprising one. Shirokuma shouldn't even be in Makuuchi by the numbers, but overpromoting him on top of that?

I'm leaning towards the Ura one being due to relative placement—Ura was #16 overall and now still is #16 overall. Ichiyamamoto probably got the bump because Kinbozan was already getting his full promotion, and that's more in line with what they've done recently. 

If they were thinking that way with Ura, it could have affected Atami as well—M2w was #12 overall, and now M8e is #22 overall. And this could have led to how Tokihayate's placement turned out. I know it's more numbers/braining than we're used to expecting from the committee, but it fits the movements. And the guys who went "up"—Midorifuji and Onokatsu—didn't really have anyone who could take their spots, especially since they overpromoted Nishikifuji to stay ahead of all the juryo promotees.

Sooo..359 players. Yes. 112 new players. I never thought we would ever reach these numbers.. Never. As expected, quite a few identical guesses In the end, it came down to a two way tie that had to be settled with penalty kicks, meaning the 2nd tiebreaker (most points in the last ten places) [20-10]. Isokiho in his 6th basho, defeats Bunbukuchagama (14th basho overall, now ranked 4th). Ranked overall 1st is Asset. Best performance by a new player- Bajar (12-3). Now, for the milestones..

Oshirokita - 130th basho !!
