Puh, Oonosato´s thrusts were really scary. Such a win against a very good oshi wrestler - that sent a message.

Takayasu vs Abi (a cursed opponent for Takayasu? Remember Nov 2022)

I'd be more concerned, but Abi looks absolutely busted. Ura just ran through him. That's not how that matchup usually goes. Considering Papa Bear fought well against Churanoumi and Chura just did a phenomenal job, I doubt he'll go all deer-in-headlights. He probably just has to avoid a slapdown trap to win.

True true, although Abi is the 'sumo is funny sometimes' type who can lose 7 matches in a row and then beat an ozeki and a 13-1 sekiwake. I also didn't like Takayasu's reaction to losing yesterday - it's understandable he'd be disappointed, but he looked especially deflated and almost like he was thinking 'not this again'. I do favour Takayasu but still consider Abi dangerous.

I am hoping for a playoff tonight, as I find it a bit underwhelming when someone wins a yusho indirectly upon a rival losing to another opponent.

I checked the standings on day 4 and saw Takayasu was doing well but then he promptly lost his match that day so I immediately stopped watching the rest of the tournament and checking the forums because, per the rules of quantum sumo, as long as I am not aware of him, Takayasu can win. I gave him the best odds I could, but I wasn't going to miss senshuraku.

No "promotion/relegation" bouts between Juryo and Makuuchi? Interesting.

They don't usually do them when there's an even number of participants in Makuuchi.

Due to time constraints?

The fact that the yusho line could once again be an 11-4

I imagine if they thought it was important, they'd make time, considering they do exchange matches between other divisions. The only times they've brought multiple guys up from juryo on day 15 (ie. times when they didn't need to bring anyone) since 2020 appears to have been for COVID reasons; a lot of the instances before that appear to involve guys in juryo with losing records, which couldn't have been exchange bouts either. (No idea why they did it then.

Well, quite a lot of guys in danger zone got opponents who don't have much to fight for. Matching them up with Fujiseiun and Tochitaikai would be much more exciting.

Ura's deceptively strong. I'm fairly sure he could steamroll 95% of the banzuke on a frontal bout if that was what he was going for.

It's amazing that we could still have a M18E makujiri yusho, if Onosato loses after the inevitable Takayasu choke. Five-way playoff, anyone?

It just doesn't seem to be something they do a lot for Makuuchi-Juryo, unless there's a numbers imbalance and it's convenient to set it up. The fact that they have to schedule everyone to fight all 15 days, unlike in the lower divisions, probably has something to do with this.

Gokishin had to be stretchered away after his last bout of the basho, in which he was hatakikomi'd and faceplanted the dohyo hard. I've read that he was later transported to hospital via ambulance. :-(

Oh hell yeah, sign me up for that. I love playoffs and we don't get them as often as I'd like :P

If Takayasu can't get it done, sign me up for the Onosato yusho and ensuing tsuna run. Let's get a real Yokozuna in place.

Unfortunately I did not have enough time to scan all of Sumoforum  but was there any kind of speculation on WTF is going on with Endo that I missed? If not... what's up? I mean it's understandable, I don't want to get up after I had a nice lie down either but still... kinda strange to take a nap in an arena full of people after a disappointing loss...

He’s been like that since he got knocked on his butt by Kinbozan on Day 10, im thinking he landed on his tailbone and tweeked his back as well, hes moving like that before and after the matches.

I hope im wrong though.

They don't usually do them anymore.  Used to be reasonably common on late-day torikumi: https://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&group_expand=on&group_by=basho&having=2&day=15&m=on&samed1=on&lowerd2=on&offset=450 shows the last page, but there's 195 basho (!) with at least two M/J bouts on day 15.    There's 184 with at least two exchange bouts on day 14, etc.

The TV constraints haven't changed much.  I think this change is for the worse, but who am I?

The other alternative is concussion, which is even worse.

You make him sound very strong, but not very smart. :-D

Tokihayate yusho would make the universe fold.
