dingo 1,281 Posted March 13 (edited) I'm not following today's bouts yet, but yesterday there were more 0-4 rikishi tham 4-0, 4 vs 2 by my counting. I suppose it's much easier to go on a losing streak than winning streak... Edited March 13 by dingo Spelling
Akinomaki 40,701 Posted March 13 That was an honest shukun interview for Chiyoshoma: "I went all out for the henka"

Kaninoyama 1,815 Posted March 13 Kotozakura needs to get himself sorted out and quickly, or he's going to be joining Kirishima in the fastest-to-former-Ozeki club.
The Fat Cyclist 32 Posted March 13 Come on Hoshoryu. You must have known he was going to henka. Hell even I knew it was coming
RabidJohn 1,849 Posted March 13 What I found most impressive about Chiyoshoma's kinboshi was that while the henka got him into a very advantageous position, it didn't work perfectly. Hoshoryu's escapology from such positions can be miraculous, but Chiyoshoma also shut that down. 1 hour ago, Kaninoyama said: Kotozakura needs to get himself sorted out and quickly, or he's going to be joining Kirishima in the fastest-to-former-Ozeki club. Someone from NHK/TV whatever, prime minister's sumo-crazy third cousin, or what? Asashosakari 19,590 Posted March 13 Hoshoryu is the first debuting yokozuna since Onokuni to not be at least 4-1 after Day 5.
dingo 1,281 Posted March 13 Nishikigi surprisingly has no power at all. He used to be an immovable object but this basho he's being sent out too easily. Injury? Abi was impressive on the first day, but his sharpness seems to be diminishing day by day. I don't mean to take away anything from an excellent victory by Oho who deflected Abi's pushes and moved well but day 1 Abi would've blasted him out. Maybe the matta messed with Abi's tachiai timing. Chiyoshoma really wanted that kinboshi. No deference to the new yokozuna at all, with a perfectly timed and executed HNH. After the bout Hoshoryu looked like he thought not enough respect was given to his new rank but respect has to be earned through strength. At least he got a new experience of being the source of the cushion-throwing. After day 5 the sanyaku and joi is a mixture of mostly 3-2 and 2-3 scores with only Onosato having 4 wins. Really hard to foresee who could take the yusho, unless Hoshoryu wins all the remaining bouts. Another 12-3 playoff coming up?

Every now and again Nishikigi has a basho in which he turns into a giant ragdoll. According to sumodb he only went kyujo once, so maybe he's one of those rikishi who heal on the dohyo

Reonito 1,505 Posted March 13 (edited) Ms27e Toseiryu 2-0 hatakikomi 1-0 Ms28e Oshoryu 1-1 This seems to be a mistake in sumodb. I noticed it because Oshoryu fights Matsui tomorrow in the undefeated bracket. I rewatched the day 4 bout to make sure and Oshoryu won. Reonito 1,505 Posted March 13 Only the 5th time since 2000 that we have no undefeated Makuuchi rikishi after 5 days, but the 4th since 2019.
