Love me so papayasu and I own his tegata, although I'll be honest that I root against him whenever the yusho is in arm's reach. I didn't always, but it just kept happening again and AGAIN that imo it makes his career more interesting, and a little more impressive. If he wins a yusho, he's just one guy among many that won a yusho. If he continues to lose or just stays at 9 JY, then that means he could have won 9 yusho! If a butterfly flapped its wings just a little differently he would have 9 yusho and be on track to become a daiyokozuna, even thought realistically he would've never won all of them. 

Yes, this is partially cope.

He's the one guy who failed to capitalize on his opportunities when so many yusho were available to rikishi other than yokozuna.

But the recent situation of having more than 10 yusho winners in makuuchi is very rare, if not unprecedented.

The reality of the big picture is only a tiny minority of rikishi win a makuuchi yusho.
