I'd say it's OK if it's truly a case of force majeure. I fail to see the significance of SO but then again I'm a toshikoshi soba. (Sarcasm...)

Well, since neither of "Yes" answers fitted my opinon, I voted no. ;)

As for me, I always try to go to work... but in case when it would require walking (or skiing, and I can't ski) all the way, I don't - at least one hour of trudging through snow is bit above and beyond the call of duty in my case. The exception would be if I had lab-work duty that day, or an experiment that really *really* needed to be done then and not tomorrow - then I'd walk.

So, if my presence at work was required, I'd do my best. For my own peace of mind, at least...

What prompted this poll? That huge snow-storm in NY? That's pretty good reason to skip work, at least to make life easier for folks who really have to go there...

Yes.Definitely.Always. Snow is  a teleport to childhood.

Children don't go to work.

But what do I know? I've never worked in my life..

I was in the path of that big storm yesterday (had close to 20 inches of snow dumped locally). I stayed home, though technically speaking I didn't "skip" work. I called my boss and he told me to stay home. Given the driving conditions, I wasn't about to argue with the guy.  :-P

IMHO, there's nothing better than curling up with your significant other under a warm blanket when it's cold and miserable outside.  Why leave the house?  Work will be there tomorrow...  but how many times do you really get to enjoy a surprise day off and just chill out with your sweetie?  Sure beats in effect risking your life, trying to navigate frozen streets.

'Course, if she HAS to go to work, you might as well too... no point in loafing around all by yourself ;)

That said, we don't get too many snow storms down here where I live :)

Cheers

Well, it's certainly a good reason to skip school, but as for work... I dunno. I guess it depends on your job and how much you'd like to keep it. :-P

I'm a student, so it really makes no difference whether I show up for class. And besides, your significant other skipping work should be reason enough. Snow storm or no storm. :-D

Thanks for the responses everyone ;)

I'm in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, so we had a big storm.  I looked outside and my car was covered in snow all the way up to the roof.  Then my girlfriend said she was going to stay at home, so I was going to stay at home as well.

Unfortunately, her boss called to make sure she was coming in to work, and so I decided I might as well go to work.  But at least I got to sleep late, and work was actually very productive because so few people were around :-P
