Jejima 1,385 Posted January 12, 2005 (edited) A quick googling produces this snippet... "Year 1241 The Mongolian Tatars devastated the country. Their presence, which lasted a year, halted development for at least a century. After the warfare with the Hungarians, the Tatars did not continue towards the west." From this I take it that The Mongolians didn't have that much affect on the genetic make-up of the Magyars ;-) I am sure the Hungarian members of this list will be more than happy to declare how Mongolian they're feeling at this moment! I am sure the Hungarian members of this list will be more than happy to declare how Mongolian they're feeling at this moment! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well i've heard about a theory that Magyars came from Siberia (not exactly from Mongolia but) I mentioned it somewhere her on Forum but noone adressed that. . I'll have to check into that matter since i am writing off the top of my head right now.
Hakuyobaku 33 Posted January 12, 2005 Well here it is , in a nutshell. This theory claims that the Hungarians originated from primitive Siberian hunter-gatherer nomads who wandered Westward and who acquired a higher culture upon coming into contact with Indo-Europeans and other peoples. Rather pricky thing, though. Go Here for More History of the Finno-Ugorian Theory
Tomitsuki 0 Posted January 12, 2005 You are absolutely right. (Applauding...) I have nothing to say. :-)
Mmikasazuma 12 Posted January 12, 2005 Mongolians (tatars) didn't leave much good memory behind... (Shaking head...) Jejima told it right. Hungarians (magyars) came from the vicinity of the Ural mountain ( or somewhat west and south of it) some 1100 years ago. (Singing drunk...) (Hugging...) (Kicked by own computer...) Hakuyobaku 33 Posted January 12, 2005 Why so many smileys? Finno-Ugorical theory is being heavily critisized these days, as you have read in the article ( if you have )
Mmikasazuma 12 Posted January 12, 2005 I wanted those smileys to picture something from that 1100 years in Hungary :-) I know about the debates, and appreciate the new theorys. (Applauding...)

Nekonishiki Banji 375 Posted January 13, 2005 I'm sorry but this topic is neither in Hungarian nor about sumo. This subforum is for discussion about sumo in Hungarian language. Except the game topics of course. Is it one of them? (Shaking head...)
