Guest Megumishiki Posted February 21, 2003 Hello all! I just looked over old videos my father taped while sailing through japan (was a seaman) and found this show where sumo players were in a singing contest. It was actually a competition between heyas. Since it was an old clip, from 1987, I am not really familiar with the players except their heyas. The ones I do know are terao, konishiki, and takasago-beya oyakata. In the end Takasago-beya and Sadagotake-beya shared top prize. Was just wondering if they still have those kind of contests? It was really fun to watch them, even doing those doo-wop dances. Konishiki even played a melody on a saxophone. :-D

I've heard several rikishi sing and perhaps not so surprisingly many of them have really good voices (from what a metalhead can tell)... :-D
Manekineko 200 Posted February 21, 2003 I had the opportunity to listen to some of them, and IMHO Tochiazuma has a wonderful voice... when he eventually retires, he could earn buckets of yen by becoming a pro singer. :D
Guest Megumishiki Posted March 2, 2003 Thanks for the replies...by the way...if I could, may I ask who is the reigning champ nowadays? (Laughing...)

Kintamayama 47,421 Posted March 2, 2003 And to back up my theory-here is a never before published clip..it's around 4.5 megs, but I think it's worth the download.. And this one is for Tokimori..4.2 megs, but..

I don't think it was an accident that made him Sailor Moon (earlier thread). Great videos Kintamayama-zeki! Thx a bunch! Ok, Takanowaka sang better...
