Which games?

Recommended Posts

I'm new at sumo games...

Which games are good for a beginner? I have no knowledge at all about juryo and I don't want to predict all matches every day...

Thankful for answers

Let me tell you about games I play...

I started my illustrious gaming career with UDH (Upside Down Hoshitori), where the goal is to pick 13 rikishi who you think will have make-koshi, ie. loosing records. As it is stated in the rules, you're also encouraged to cheer for your picks to win ispite of everything! Good game for getting familiar with not-so-hot makuuchi wrestlers.

Requires only one pick for the whole basho.

Natural next step was Hoshitori, where the goal is to pick 13 rikishi who you think will have kachi-koshi, ie. winning records. Scoring is somewhat more complicated than in UDH, since sansho (prizes), yusho (championship), kin- and gin-boshi (wins against yokozuna and ozeki) are also counted. Requires only one pick for the whole basho.

ISP (Internet Sumo Pool) asks you to guess the winner of the day's featured bout, 15 bouts in all. Interesting, doesn't require much time, does require playing every day (you can use automatic pick for 5 not-in-a-row days, I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Deceptively simple rules, but it's not easy to earn a kachi-koshi, due to very tricky choice of daily bouts.

Bench Sumo. It's true that if you want to do well in this game, you have to play it every day, which means predicitng the daily results of your chosen 10 rikishi. But it's (IMHO) *the* best sumo game in the cyberspace, the only one with the feel of real sumo about it. Definetly worth a try, but not if you drone (ie, submit one lineup for the whole basho), you have to play actively to enjoy it.

Another nice, short game requiring just a single pick is Kintamayama-zeki's Golden Chrystal Balls, but I haven't noticed it this Aki, so maybe it died out. Anyway, you have to be subscribed to Sumo ML, since it's announced there, and it consits of guessing final scores of san'yaku rikishi.

There are other games, but I just can't play them all. So this is my top 10 (well, 5). It really includes Juryo game, too, but since you don't know any juryo rikishi...

The good news about Sekitori-Toto is, yes, you pick every day and yes, it includes Juryo [what a GREAT way to learn about the ins and outs of sumo gaming, by the way, isn't it?

Sorry, this game died a few bashos back due to general lack of interest..I like it , and Manekineko liked it, and that's about it...

Thanks for all your help.

I think I will start with Hoshitori, UDH, ISP and Bench sumo. Sekitori-toto sounds good too, but I need some practice in predicting the makuuchi first. That is difficult enough...  :-D

This tournament I go all out to do the kind of sumo that my fans (who?) enjoy. I hope that someone will be rooting for me... ;-)

Hoshitori definetly is the best game for beginners.

As I am not able to follow the Sumo-Action every day and so watch the Makkuchi via Eurosport and the Juryo (if I have the time) via the livestream on the NSK-Site, I play Hoshitori, UDH, the Juryo Game and Sekitori Oracle. The last both obviously not the games to start with, but a good way to get involved into Juryo as well.

GTB is another great game to play, as it is completely different from other games and is to be played at another time.
