This is a poll.

Do not reveal the identity of the man on the T-SHIRT picture (not the man performing!!!) but just express your honest view whether you recognize the person in the T-shirt picture or not. Reply truthfully. This is an interesting question and I will explain later why I ask this here. Please everyone vote!

actually to be honest, since we are being truthful in this thread I am more interested in the camera that took the picture, the photo properties say it was taken with a Canon Eos 20D camera.

How do you find it? are you happy with it? or is it not your camera?

I would like to get a Nikon D70 perhaps but a an Eos would be nice.

I have a D70 & absolutely love it. (Sign of approval) Now if I could find as good an eye for compostition as Nishinoshima or Higashimori... (I am not worthy...)

Yes, of course! [ 8 ] ** [28.57%]

Yes I think so [ 8 ] ** [28.57%]

Not sure really [ 5 ] ** [17.86%]

No I don't really [ 2 ] ** [7.14%]

I have no idea... [ 6]

Well enough votes already so the answer can be revealed. It is John Lennon. What triggered me to make this kind of poll was the private debate with Kintamayama about the ratio of human beings who knows the picture. He was deeply shocked when I didn't recognize the face and he claimed "everyone" recognizes Lennon because it is famous picture and Lennon was famous for glasses and Kintamayama called me a tree inhabitant aboriginal person. I claimed that my generation ( I am 30) and younger don't know Lennon so well anymore no matter how famous he was and how he was shot by mean Mark. Sure of course I know the basics of Lennon and so but to Kintamayama this was almost an insult that I didn't recognize him on that picture. Hence we decided to see how small is the minority tree I live at. Results indicate that 16 knew it was Lennon with certainty or probability while 13 didn't know. 8 even answered quite explicitly that they really don't know who the guy is. I have proven now that Kintamayama is blinded by his age, professional musician status and overall interest in the 1960s music and thinks this is known by all other forum members except me and some other tree inhabitants.

Besides I would recognize Lennon from those weak hippie-like pictures but in that picture he actually looks like a strong individual and not a fragile looking hippie.

It's barely been 12 hours since the poll was published and already you are summarizing? You should have waited at least another day, when an overwhelming 50 votes would have been cast on the "recognize" side. Geez, people haven't even woken up yet.

I move for a dismissal on the grounds of wrongful procedure and wish to be declared eligible for damages.

If so many people don't recognize Lennon, I might as well become a drummer.

And your last sentence (Lennon was a weak hippie..) is sooo wrong it proves your tree STILL doesn't have electricity.

I think that among those who replied "not sure really" (including me) there's quite a handful who smelled a trap - "of course the guy is supposed to look like Lennon, but if the question is asked there must be some reason". With that kind of frame of mind, you pretty quickly get to doubt that the guy even remotely looks like Lennon (the nose and chin didn't seem right to me, etc.).

So I think that this poll is rather inconclusive in terms of what it was supposed to investigate in the first place. Yet it's raising a number of interesting psychological questions so thanks for the opportunity. ;-)

Exactly! Kaikitsune cleverly tried to throw everyone off the track and look for a non-existent trap. Thank you for verifying my hunch. Now, we should redo the poll and use the original question I suggested to Mr. Makoto:

"Who thinks this is John Lennon?", or, "Isn't this John Lennon for sure??"

I admit to have fallen into a different psychic trap altogether. I completely misread the question. After a first glance at the picture, thinking "hehe, him!" and reading "please don't vote for the obvious guy", I assumed Lennon being the obvious guy and voted "of course I know the performer". In the end, it didn't really matter though. B-)

Keep on rockin'! ;-)

When 20% vote "No idea", that is already enough. Never claimed that majority wouldn't recognize Lennon in that picture but I was sure there is a big minority that don't recognize him. Azumaryu's comment about worrying about a trap (if the picture was so obviously Lennon..) may have some grounds too but they would reply "not sure really" most likely. On the other hand it is a valid assumption that the people who recognized him immediately were the ones who were most prone to vote immediately too and this creates a bias towards the "recognize"-results. Also all people who voted "No idea", don't have any idea whereas there could well be members who voted "Of course!" and then thought it was Phil Collins for sure for example.

Maybe a bit in the same way as in the past thread where we had many forum members who scored almost full points in placing the countries in Africa to correct positions and even so that the error marginal in placing the countries was not very substantial. Unless one has long-standing profound interest in African geography and unusually crystal clear positional memory, to score 95% in such tests is borderline to geniosity. That thread caused long term damage to my geography-conscious ego as I realised that my results were extremely good before I checked the forum member's self-announced results after which my results were extremely modest. I still shiver in shock when some Europeans claim to be able to place 95% of African countries on an empty map WHILE getting the countries in random order to be placed. Unbelievable or downright lies.

This is not really connected to this Lennon vote though at all but it just came to my mind due to 40C fever and because I was reading about Botswana schools implementing annual fees again.

The conclusion stands. It was bullshit that that Lennon's picture would be recognizable to vast majority of forum members. Majority yes but not overwhelming majority. All demands for dismissal and financial, sexual, reputational or moral compensation are denied. Lennon is Lennon and life is life. May he rest in peace and his songs live forever.

The soundness of the statistical analysis of this poll was good enough even though it wouldn't be accepted to any Journal of Statistical Life and Death or whatever professional statisticians' magazines are called.

Now shall return to the tree where I have surprisingly many companions now! We shall eat bananas and shout expletive insults to all rikishi who lose by pulling.

Oh man, I was walking around with my tail firmly tucked between my legs for a long time after that thread.. I felt so inadequate and small and stupid. I still bear the painful scars to this day.

Botswana!

you should even try the new improvement to that game where you resize the country before you place it ..

trully madness but still a 95% is not out of this world if you try it 10 times or so ....

try "level 9" in "African Countries"

enjoy

I too thought it was a trick question but I recognised the picture on the Tshirt by his glasses and didn't recognise him from the main picture ;-) I thought it was someone wearing a John Lennon Tshirt, not Lennon himself and my best mates a big Lennon fan with pictures all over his house-So I should have known.

And who is this John Lennon guy anyway? So how could I ever recognize him? ;-)

Still, the guy playing the bass is somewhat familiar to me.

But seriously, I was a little more certain about the bass player than about Lennon when I first saw the photo. What does that tell about me? Or about the depicted persons in terms of immediate recognizability?

That it's a bad drawing of Lennon.

And your last sentence (Lennon was a weak hippie..) is sooo wrong it proves your tree STILL doesn't have electricity.

I humbly withdraw that statement fully after some research on John Lennon. There are about 18 000 000 sites on-line that Google found where he is mentioned so quite easy to find info. Lennon didn't look like a fragile hippie at all. I must be confusing him to someone else. Didn't know that he received death threats from US nor about his long solo career. Thought he was mainly a Beatle but not at all so. Educational session. I DO know what is Kasugao's favourite grip and that is TRULY important though!

The man playing with John Lennon-shirt on is Elvis.

I am with Moti on this one. Being 27 I am too young to ever have seen Lennon live, but this guy is a legend. He probably was the second or third most talented Beatle after Paul and possibly George...I have never really been a Lennon fan.

I was not 100% sure if the face on the shirt was John Lennon, but he would have been my first guess. That hat and Moti's body made him look a little like Zucchero, though...

Yes, but even a badly drawn Lennon should be more recognizable to me than... this Elvis person. Must be a matter of charisma

;-)

Actually, the drawing is an incredible , incredibly fantastic one that really "jumps out on you". The guy wearing it makes it wrinkle in the wrong places..
