after today's shocking result i don't know what to expect from now on.

Asa is 90% out of the yusho race (i doubt Azuma can lose to Riki) but he could play a major factor on day 15, in order to see a kettei-sen.

amazing basho and most probably a new yusho winner after a long time.

Im not sure what sup with asa. Didnt seem like himself today, despite that being a great move by Ama.

So, if he is injured, then i doubt he can beat tochiazuma on the last day.

Of course my dream would be kotooshu beating asa tomorrow, hokutoriki beating tochiazuma, hakuho beating Tokitsuumi, then on the final day, Kotooshu beating hakuho, Asa beating tochiazuma, and then having a playoff between kotooshu, hakuho, tochiazuma, and either tokitsumi or hokutoriki with Osh coming out on top. (Clapping wildly...) Ha, wishful thinking.

What most likely will happen is, osh might beat asa tomorrow, tochiazuma definately beating hokutoriki, hakuho beating tokisumi, and then tochiazuma beating asa on the final day to win yusho.

I agree. I think Tochiazuma has it in the bag now, due to lots of luck and without ever really thrilling us at all...

yeah, im only saying it because he really seems to be hurting with that arm...i dont know what else could be the reason for looking to be going at 80% speed/strength today, plus having his whole arm all bandaged up.

Hakuho really messed him up with that armlock throw!

Due to good sumo. Nothing more. Against Hakuho and Kotoosho, he was pushing them outside, not the opposite. No luck there.

Definietly agree with you, Xris. Tochiazuma showed good, solid sumo this basho. It seems however, that he is not the most liked rikishi, at least on this forum. ;)

Maybe it is so. But there definitely are Tochiazuma supporters on this forum, they just aren't that vocal than those of other rikishi. At least he is my favorite rikishi since Hakuho weighed just estimated 40 kg, and I know I am not the only one as other longtime forum members also like him a lot.

Actually, there are Tochiazuma supporters.

But,

1) Asashoryu is the outstanding rikishi in the last year and no one at the moment could match his skill. Any other rikishi will always be compared with him and will look mediocre.

2) Unlike Hakuho and Kotoosho Tochiazuma is not young any more. That is, he has already reached his maximum skill. And noone would ever say something like: "he will be better than Asashoryu, when he is more experienced.

As I have already said on day 2, Asashoryu just did not have the glow of a champion this basho, and it was just a matter of someone stepping up with a sufficiently good record and take the yusho.

I am definitely a Tochiazuma fan, although it's Asa and him both for me. And for those members with a selective memory-I suggest you go back and watch his bouts day after day and see how dominant he was and stop whining about how he robbed Hakuhou of a win. He won 11 other matches, you know.

Tochiazuma = quiet, calm, focused and seemingly relaxed on the dohyo... just like his supporters here! v(^-^)v

Happy to hear that, as I'm Zuma's fan too. And sorry for the premature statement. (Jumping in ecstasy...)

(Jumping in ecstasy...) (Praying...) He shows solid great sumo when he is not hurt. We do love him! (Sigh...)

Tochiazuma is strong like a bull.

Second, he is a very smart tactician...always looking for opponents mistakes and same time very cautious not to make mistakes and risky moves himself....That makes his sumo very boring against low ranked rikishi....but, very unpredictable and exciting with high rankers...

His sumo is like playing chess...or watching a political triller. (Pulling hair...)

Why Tochiazuma don't get Kotomitsuki (who has been always dangerious to Zuma) as opponent on day 14?

(In other words: An ozeki skipping a bout with sekiwake)

Because of Hokutoriki and Tokitsuumi ?...or because of ...(never mind)

Some may ask same thing relative to Hakuho...whether he should've been get Roho on day 14?...

I do not include Tochiazuma among my favorite rikishi, but I will be very happy to see him take the Yusho with a 14-1. My renewed access to sumo started about the time that he was promoted to ozeki. I especially like strong yotsu sumo, and he is one of the best. My negative impression of him has been that he is content to be an ozeki, and tends to fold his blanket after he gets his eight and the yusho is not on the line for him. He is prone to injury, and takes no unnecessary chances. He is running hot this basho, and I would like to see him rewarded for it. (Sign of approval)

Yeah count me in as another long time Tochiazuma fan/admirer.

It's definitely him and Hakuho I root for the most these days (and Ama and Tamanoshima!).

Shame not to see Tochiazuma vs Kotomitsuki. Their head-to-head record is Tochiazuma 7-11 Kotomitsuki. In the absence of Kaio, Tochiazuma doesn't have to fight many rikishi that he has a negative record against.

(Asashoryu, Kotomitsuki, Hakuho)
