Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted August 9, 2006 The Star Online reports that a sumo fitness DVD has been released: Sumo fitness DVD on sale in Japan TOKYO (AP) - Exercise videos typically feature svelte, muscular models. But Japan's latest fitness program sports a figure known more for girth than grace: the sumo wrestler. "Sumo Health Exercises,'' released by the Japan Sumo Association this month, contains 12 sets of stretches, squats and splits demonstrated by professional wrestlers. These models are a world away from rail-thin yoga instructors _ they include hefty wrestlers such as the 140 kilogram (308 pound) Wakakasuga and 116 kilogram (255 pound) Hokutosho. Still, the association says the wrestlers who compete by trying to push each other out of a circular ring follow a rigorous exercise regime that would help regular folks. more... A semi-desperate attempt by the Kyokai to increase the popularity of their countries "national sport" in the guise of a "workout" and healthy lifestyle regime. Call me a cynic but the very terms "sumo" and "healthy lifestyle" seem almost like an oxymoron to all too many already. Oh well, at least the artwork is top notch...... (In jonokuchi...) .
