Oshirokita 192 Posted March 4, 2006 Pick the Yusho Winners is up and running for the Haru basho. Full rules, entry form, results page, etc are found at the usual website: http://members.shaw.ca/oshirokita/PTYWgame.htm Pick who you think has the best chance to win the yusho in each division. Experience has taught that it is usually safer to pick healthy rikishi than risk a pick on someone returning from injury, but when someone is ranked too low for their ability temptation is strong. Good luck and thanks for playing! Banzuke topics: Sekiwake 1 east Itachi needs 10 wins or more to secure Ozeki promotion. (base requirement is generally 3 consecutive basho in sanyaku with 10 or more wins in each basho, total of at least 33) Sekiwake 1 west Kintamayama is also eligible for Ozeki consideration if he gets 11 wins or more this basho. His past 2 basho were 9 wins and 13 wins (yusho). Although his 9 win result is a bit weak, the yusho result leading into this basho was deemed enough to merit consideration if he has a good result again this basho. - Oshirokita, from the Great White North
Kashunowaka 300 Posted March 10, 2006 Although I enjoy this game very much, I have decided to cut down on games that deal with the lower divisions. Hence I declare my intai from PTYW.
Oshirokita 192 Posted March 12, 2006 As is too often the case, I am having PC problems this basho. The good news is my email IS working so I am receiving the game entries. Bad news is I have lost internet access for some reason so can't follow the results onlinr unless I get into work (and I will be away from work for a few days at least as I recover from a nasty case of the flu possibly brought back by a coworker returned from Thailand). I will try to post the entries after the deadline and update my webpage, but don't know yet whether that will work on my crappy PC at this time. I will post to the SML the PTYW selection statistics, as usual. Other good news: I bought a new laptop and have backed up all my data so my game files and rikishi profiles and extensive sumo statistics won't be lost. - Oshirokita
Oshirokita 192 Posted March 20, 2006 Pick the Yusho Winners standings are up as of Day 8. hurray! I am back in business! My new laptop is working great, I've shielded and protected it as much as I can to keep it more secure than my old PC, and I have updated the PTYW game webpage. Standings are now up as of Day 8 and will be updated semiregularly. Interesting to note that the Makuuchi players are dominating the leaderboard... http://members.shaw.ca/oshirokita/Standings.htm - Oshirokita, from the Great White North
Oshirokita 192 Posted March 26, 2006 Congratulations to Asashosakari, who after many basho of consistent play, finally is the yusho winner in Pick the Yusho Winners! and he looks likely to pass the magic 80 point mark for a zensho yusho, too! (Nodding yes...)
Oshirokita 192 Posted March 26, 2006 The final results for the Pick the Yusho Winners game are available. Congratulations again to Asashosakari, who claims the yusho with the overall high score of 82. His winning entry was: 16 Asashoryu (13 wins +1 for kachi koshi +2 for yusho) Makuuchi yusho 12 Wakanosato (11 wins +1 kk) 18 Baruto (15w +1 +2) Juryo yusho 5 Dewaotori (4w +1) 7 Nakanishi (6w +1) 7 Tsukasaumi (6w +1) 10 Masuhikari (7w +1 +2) Jonidan yusho 7 Daishoyu (6w +1) 82 Total This was the highest ever scoring basho with half of all players scoring at least 70 points! Much of this is because of Baruto's zensho yusho in the Juryo division, whom most players selected. The best possible score this basho would have been 93: 16 Asashoryu (13 wins +1 for kachi koshi +2 for yusho) Makuuchi yusho 12 Wakanosato (11 wins +1 kk) [or Kyokutenho or Kyokushuzan, also with 11 wins as Maegashira) 18 Baruto (15w +1 +2) Juryo yusho 7 Hakuba (6w +1) [or Kitataiki, also with 6 wins in upper Makushita] 10 Kotoyutaka (7w +1 +2) Makushita yusho 10 Maeta (7w +1 +2) Sandanme yusho 10 Masuhikari (7w +1 +2) Jonidan yusho 10 Takunishiki (7w +1 +2) Jonokuchi yusho 93 Total Thanks to everyone for playing. Hope to see you all again next basho! (The new game banzuke will be posted in a few days. Congratulations to Itachi who earned his promotion to Ozeki!) - Oshirokita, from the Great White North
Itachi 396 Posted March 29, 2006 I'd like to thank all of you who play this game. Without such good participation, Oshirokita's efforts would go under appreciated. Thanks to Oshirokita for bringing this game into being and maintaining it despite all the computer troubles that always seem to hit him right around tournament time. I am honored to be promoted to Ozeki and I pledge to do my best to compete for the yusho in each and every tournament for the entertainment of my 'many' fans (I have at least 3 - my daughters and wife) and also to provide strong competition to challenge the other players. Thanks everyone, see you on the dohyo in May. Itachi
