Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted May 20, 2003 Who is the most popular comedian / comedy show in your country? I thought of making this a poll, but there are too many choices given the wide distribution of members of this forum (which is great!) (Ranting...)
Fujisan 533 Posted May 20, 2003 That is a matter of each ones opinion-My favourite comedian is Lee Evans,he reminds me of a younger Norman Wisdom-His manic often self defacing personality reminds me a bit of myself aswell. My favourite comedy show is One foot in the grave, although it has finished now. ;-)
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted May 22, 2003 Quite hard to say just one. Could be the Kummeli group or perhaps Lapinlahden linnut which is better known for their music? Other favourites are Pirkka-Pekka Petelius in his numerous alter egos and the trio of Pasanen, Salminen & Loiri from which Pasanen unfortunately died about 20 months ago. He was one true eccentric. My personal favourites include also Studio Julmahuvi who were utterly absurd at times. I'm willing to bet something that not one of these names is known outside Finland, though. (Holiday feeling...) Dejimasama 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Hmmm this is tough for me but my favorite would have to be the writer and director Kevin Smith. The humor in his movies just kill me. If you havent heard of him his movies are Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. In fact you can actually see him in his movies as the character Silent Bob. Zenjimoto 40 Posted May 22, 2003 (edited) Since I have been away from my country for going on to 12 years now, I can safely say, I have NO CLUE as to who's funny there at the moment (Holiday feeling...) Which is kinda sad, cause I am a true Comedy Central junkie here in the US (Holiday feeling...) Cheers! Zenjimoto Edited May 22, 2003 by Zenjimoto
Manekineko 200 Posted May 22, 2003 I'm ashamed to admit I have NO idea who's considered funny here. (Eh?) I like British humor, so I get my comedy fix there, and from Rumiko Takahashi's manga. :-) We don't have any comdey TV series I'm aware of, and usualy every attempt of Croatian-made humor on TV is more scary than funny... :-( Bosnians have better sense of humor than us, their "Audition" borrowed heavily from Monty Pythons, but had also moments of authentic funnyness. "Misbehaving kids" had another heavily Monthy Python influenced show on cult radio station 101 in the 80ies, when I was li'l and everything was funny... (Laughing...) I still remember their jingle in the time of Chernobyl (sp?): "Listen to the radio and don't be active" :-S :-D I should mention that "Audition" had its highlight of popularity in the 80s, too. We do have old theatre masters of comedy, veteran Pero Kvrgi

Zenjimoto 40 Posted May 23, 2003 What is your country? As can be clearly seen from my avatar, I hail from Austria :-( Of course that doesn't mean that I am any less than loyal to Hinata-Beya, the Florida Heya. In that, I am lucky... I have a country to represent, and a heya as well! (Sign of approval) Cheers Zenjimoto
jomojo 0 Posted May 23, 2003 Who is the most popular comedian / comedy show in your country? For me, here in the UK, it would be the Scottish comedian Billy Connelly. His stand-up shows are full of belly laughs from start to finish. For best comedies of all time ... it would have to be Monty Python. And best comedy film ... well, American actors, with a British Director ... "American Beauty". ciao for now. jomojo (Blinking...)

Exil 301 Posted May 30, 2003 Stand-up comedy has only recently gained popularity in Finland, but I've been a fan of Rodney Carrington for years. Marc Maron is another favorite of mine. I'd love to hear more from Rich Hall (aka Otis Lee Crenshaw), but his material is rather hard to find.
Fujisan 533 Posted June 5, 2003 Yeh Exil,I agree with you on Rich Hall we only seem to get him on celebrity panel shows in Britain but he still makes a big impression.
