Fay 1,677 Posted July 16, 2006 With thanks to Asashosakari for giving us a look at the alternate drone score, here are the win/loss records, projected wins out of 15, and projected # of kk after 8 days. I haven't had time to work in the group wins yet but I hope to do that soon.Fay (33-27) ; 8.3 ; 4 Itachi (39-21) ; 9.75 ; 7 Sekihiryu (33-27) ; 8.25 ; 7 Tamanogijima (29-31) ; 7.25 ; 4 Doitsuyama (37-23) ; 9.25 ; 8 Drone#1(most popular) (39-21) ; 9.75 ; 9 Bad day for me, fire from all flanks, but more important, quite a good day for my boys. Kaishoryu, Gokenzan and Kakureizan are 4-0, Kotomisen got a win today and is 3-1 and there is still some hope for the others except Shinzan, who is 0-4. I haven't had time to work in the group wins yet but I hope to do that soon.Fay (33-27) ; 8.3 ; 4 Itachi (39-21) ; 9.75 ; 7 Sekihiryu (33-27) ; 8.25 ; 7 Tamanogijima (29-31) ; 7.25 ; 4 Doitsuyama (37-23) ; 9.25 ; 8 Drone#1(most popular) (39-21) ; 9.75 ; 9 I can now confirm Asashosakari's score for the 'best previous' Drone. Drone #2 (best previous record) (31-29) ; 7.75 ; 6 Also, I upgraded my spreadsheet to count group leaders and yusho leaders. Here is a set of current projections for wins/15, # of kk, # of group winners, # of yusho equivalent records. The last number is your projected Sandanme Game score out of 15. The best possible is the rikishi named Max. Shikona wins ; kk ; gw ; ye ; score (out of 15) Max (best possible) 13.75 ; 15 ; 15 ; 10 ; 14.125 Drone #1 (most popular) 9.75 ; 9 ; 5 ; 3 ; 9.73 Itachi 9.75 ; 7 ; 5 ; 4 ; 9.53 Doitsuyama 9.25 ; 8 ; 4 ; 2 ; 9.175 Sekihiryu 8.25 ; 7 ; 4 ; 2 ; 8.38 Drone #2 (best previous) 7.75 ; 6 ; 5 ; 2 ; 8.03 Fay 8.3 ; 4 ; 3 ; 3 ; 8 Tamanogijima 7.25 ; 4 ; 2 ; 0 ; 5.68 I can inflate the Sandanme Game scores a bit by scaling Max to a perfect 15 and everyone else by the same ratio. This would push 3 of us to 10 win records, 3 others to 9 wins and leave Tama-zeki unchanged at 6 so I didn't present the scores that way. I think Drone #2 establishes a nice base line. If you do as well as the team that had the best record last basho then 8 wins is fair. To do as well as Drone #1, you need to do some research to find the most attractive picks (not necessarily always the best but rarely the worst) It is not always possible to score a perfect 15 in this game unless there are enough yusho equivalent rikishi. The rarity of 15-0 opportunities may be appropriate. I think the concerns about difficulty in achieving kk have been addressed. Our scores would range from 6-10 wins if we project it from today. Only one of us is in mk land (and deservedly so with only 4 of 15 rikishi with more wins than losses). Any thoughts? Edited July 16, 2006 by Itachi
Asashosakari 19,646 Posted July 16, 2006 (edited) It is not always possible to score a perfect 15 in this game unless there are enough yusho equivalent rikishi. FWIW, there have always been exactly 1 or 2 unbeaten rikishi in Sandanme for as long as I can remember, so 145+ points seems to be pretty well impossible to me... (2x9 pts + 13x8 pts + 15 yusho pts = 137). And even that assumes that all non 7-0 groups have a 6-1 rikishi, which is far from a given. I suppose it might work (if barely) if you give 15 points for the yusho winner, and another 10 for the kettei-sen loser if there was one. Itachi 396 Posted July 17, 2006 It is not always possible to score a perfect 15 in this game unless there are enough yusho equivalent rikishi. FWIW, there have always been exactly 1 or 2 unbeaten rikishi in Sandanme for as long as I can remember, so 145+ points seems to be pretty well impossible to me... I suppose it might work (if barely) if you give 15 points for the yusho winner, and another 10 for the kettei-sen loser if there was one. Yes, I suppose it is nearly impossible. Well, if I scale everyone's result so that Max's score is a perfect 15 then all scores are possible for us. Max guesses that group winner for all 15 groups. I considered giving everyone with jun-yusho equivalent scores the full 15 and then adding a bonus 10 for the kettei-sen (or outright) winner. This extra ten would bring the perfect score closer to achievable but probably not close enough and it puts too much emphasis on selecting the yusho winner. So these scores are prorated according to the maximum possible score and as a result, we all get a bit of a boost. Rikishi; (win-loss); projected wins; kk; group leads; yusho equivalent; Sd Game score Max; (60-8); 13.23529; 15; 15; 3; 15 Itachi; (45-23); 9.93; 10; 6; 2; 11 Drone (popular); (44-24); 9.71; 10; 6; 1; 10.8 Fay; (37-31); 8.2; 6; 3; 2; 8.8 Drone (best previous); (37-34); 7.82; 7; 4; 1; 8.8 Doitsuyama; (40-26); 9.0909; 9; 5; 0; 8.4604 Sekihiryu; (36-32); 7.941; 7; 5; 0; 7.365 Tamanogijima; (34-33); 7.61; 7; 2; 0; 6.79 The order was not affected by the scaling and no one went from mk to kk but the scores are overall a bit higher. Now we have 2 at 11 wins, 2 at 9, one at 8, and 2 at 7. Fay and Doitsuyama appear to have changed seats while I slept last night! Fay is now sanwiched between drones - in 2nd place amongst human contestants! Doitsuyama had enjoyed 2nd place for most of the tournament but now finds himself in the last kk spot (where Fay had been). The main reason for this is the yusho equivalent record which is worth a big 15 points. Doitsu-zeki doesn't have any of the 5-0 rikishi while Fay and I have 2 (Max has only one more!). Everyone still has more wins than losses though it is close for Tamanogijima at (34-33). Fay is doing quite well considering she only has 6 kk rikishi (projected). They are 6 good ones though! Good luck on day 10. Itachi
Fay 1,677 Posted July 17, 2006 Sandwiched, yes that's how I feel (I am not worthy...) Gokenzan once again a bit disappointing, sometimes he stops fighting when he already reached KK, a bit risky at SD 7 if he really wants to return to Makushita. Kakureizan was very bad in the last two bashos and a bit injured too, as he said, but he recovered and I hope he goes on and on. And Kaishoryu... He had to give up at Hatsu basho and fell deep from MS 59 to SD 29 but obviously he is back again (I am not worthy...) I have my doubts with Kotohikari, but Kotomisen and Kotootori should get their KK and hopefully the other guys who still have a chance too. Still to mention, this is the Drone:favourite heya guess, so maybe it will end at last place, but it's just to show some virtual support.

Itachi 396 Posted July 23, 2006 Keeping in mind that this is a trial run, here are the results after the final day of the tournament. I have scored the game as I described in previous posts. The one area that may need to be adjusted is the yusho bonus. It was easier to give the bonus to everyone who had a yusho equivalent rikishi and so as it stands, Fay earns the same bonus for having Kaishoryu as Sekihiryu, Genzai, and myself who have the Sandanme playoff winner, Daitensho since both have 7-0 records. I had considered giving an additional 10 points (1 extra win overall) for those who actually had the yusho winner but I think the scores are high enough as it is. Thoughts? Congratualtions to Mirai (who wil always win anyway but cannot recieve the yusho for obvious reasons). Congratulations to Itachi (yes, that's me) for devising a game he (I) could win (kidding). ... pardon the interruption - I have to go. I'll post the results later today. Sorry. .. everyone got kk except Mukashi.

That kept me in in touch with the lower divisions and made the basho even more exciting. About the scoring i think the guys who choose the Sandanme winner should get more points than, for example me, who had Kaishoryu ( or I should get less points..) Itachi 396 Posted July 24, 2006 (edited) About the scoring i think the guys who choose the Sandanme winner should get more points than, for example me, who had Kaishoryu ( or I should get less points..) Ok, since the only player who will lose points (Fay) seems to approve I will adjust the scoring formula where it distributes bonus points for yusho equivalent scores. There will be a full 15 point bonus awarded to those that have the yusho winner. If you don't have the yusho winner but you have a rikishi with an equivalent record (who lost in the playoff) then you get only 10 points (this will put you one half win behind the yusho winner). If you don't have the yusho winner and there isn't a rikishi with the same record than you can still pick up 5 points if you have the jun-yusho winner. This way the yusho is still an advantage but getting close to the yusho is rewarded as well. Here are the final results. Rikishi; (win-loss); average wins per rikishi; kk; group leads; yusho equivalent; Sd Game score Mirai (86-19); 12.29; 15; 15; 2; 15 Itachi (66-39); 9.43; 11; 5; 1; 11.11 Genzai (63-42); 9; 10; 4; 1; 10.53 Sekihiryu (54-51); 7.71; 8; 3; 1; 9.16 Fay (58-47); 8.29; 9; 2; 1; 9.05 Doitsuyama (59-46); 8.43; 9; 3; 0; 8.13 Tamanogijima (56-49); 8; 9; 1; 0; 7.56 Mukashi (52-53); 7.43; 8; 2; 0; 7.1 And the standings: Mirai 15-0 Itachi 11-4 Genzai 11-4 Sekihiryu 9-6 Fay 9-6 Doitsuyama 8-7 Tamanogijima 8-7 Mukashi 7-8 Mirai cannot be awarded the yusho for the simple fact that it automatically wins every time. I'm not sure if Genzai or Mukashi should be eligible or not - the best real player should get the award. This time, it seems to be me. Sekihiryu would recieve recognition for the jun-yusho, narrowly edging out Fay by having the playoff winner. As for Sansho, I think our numbers need to grow a bit before this would be meaningful. Some obvious categories for consderation would be - best overall win-loss record - most kk riksihi - most group winners. There ought to be a minimum level for each of these before a sansho can be awarded. I would've taken all of those this time too - I wonder if the yusho winner would always be on top of those categories in which case there is no point in awarding sansho. As for the banzuke, I'm open to offers of banzuke construction. I considered having us all start in Jonokuchi as with the Guess the Yusho Winners Game. I considered starting us as new sekitori since we have 15 bouts. It's simpler for me if there is only one division for now (especially since there are so few of us) so I'd rather we start somewhere we can't easily be demoted out of the division from. How about we start in upper Makuuchi (except Mirai who is expected to always win). Yokozuna East: Mirai M1E: Itachi M1W: Genzai M2E: Sekihiryu M2W: Fay M3E: Doitsuyama M3W: Tamanogijima M4E: Mukashi New entrants can start in the next available spot. Some rough promotion guidelines for upper sanyaku: Ozeki promotion after 3 consecutive double digit win performances in Sanyaku (last one must be Sekiwake). Yokozuna promotion after 2 consecutive yusho as Ozeki with no more than 6 combined losses or 3 consecutive yusho equivalent or jun-yusho records with at least one yusho and no more than 7 combined losses. If the Ozeki promotion rule is too soft, we could add a requirement for a minimum total of 33. The Yokozuna rule allows for 13y-12jy-13ye to lead to promotion or 12y-12y to give the weakest promotable examples. I think it might be too difficult but we don't want that position to fill up too soon. Ozeki demotion as per usual kadoban rules. Perhaps some special kadoban rule for Yokozuna will be needed. I've made up a spreadsheet with everyone's detailed records including the makeup of Mirai's winning team. I'll try to set that up to be viewable here later on. I expect that Mukashi will be studying Mirai's picks to prepare for next tournament. Thanks to everyone for playing and to those who are just observing, thanks for your interest - come and join us in September! Fay 1,677 Posted July 24, 2006 Puuuuuuuuuh, a lot of work. I really appreciate everyone who is hard working on the statistics and the games and once again thank you to all of them. So let me give you my survey on my guys: - Kaishoryu was brilliant this basho - well of course, I couldn't see him, but due to his results, I think he was. He seems to be completely recovered from his injury and I look forward to september when I can see him again :-) - Gokenzan ... as always, he stops fighting when he has his KK >:-( - Kakureizan good performance, I will watch him closer next basho - Enatsukasa dito - Kyokushoten .. ok - Kotohikari after his drop to Sandanme, I didn't expect him to perform so well, but of course I'm glad he did. - Wakamifuji don't know him really, but perhaps I should start watching him - Asahanda 1-6, tsetsetse - Gagamaru good performance - Takashoma ;-) don't know what to do with this guy :-) . He surely can do better and he is a nice one. So I don't give up. - Shinzan another disappointing one from Takasago - Kotomisen yes, go on. I didn't expect a 5-2, to be honest, but he is always hard working in asageiko and I hope he can fight as well in Aki Basho. (Laughing...) - Kotootori also hard working, but no success this time - Seiryu and Masunoumi still don't know anything about them
