Itachi 396 Posted July 16, 2006 Hello everyone, I don't mean to interfere with Hoshifurasu and his game but I am often frustrated by the absence of a forum to discuss it. Benchsumo has it's own yahoo group as does Seki-toto (though it isn't as well used) and most of the other games I play have open topics here at the sumoforum. I thought perhaps some of the 132 particpants in the Juryo Game may want to use this forum to brag or vent their frustrations or whatever. Firstly, thanks again to Hoshifransu for implementing the game. It is one of my favorties and on a very short list of games I do not intend to give up even as my sumogame time becomes restricted. I may be quite biased as I've had a certain amount of success in the game - I'm about to end my second term as Ozeki (moshiwake nai desu kedo ...) Here are my topics for venting. What is with Mokonami and Dewaotori? Surely I'm not the only one who liked them going into this tournament. They have been very disappointing. As for the worst Makuuchi pick, I've been waiting impatiently for Tamakasuga (7-1), one of the few rikishi from Ehime-ken (and the only sekitori I can rmember) to resume his age-induced decline! I'm beginning to worry that he won't begin his final slide to retirement until I stop predicting it! Also, I am suffering for having selected Wakanoho (1-3) over Kageyama (4-0) in the Juryo Hopes category. It is one thing to be wrong but quite another to be so much wrong. Mokononami was the top pick for yusho contender this time so he featured high in many expectations including mine and due to his performance so far I have dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in 4 basho-So thats a question I would like an answer to aswell. For worst Makuuchi I have been picking Kitazakura ever since he arrived in Makuuchi but decided to switch to Daimanazuru this time(Good choice)
Itachi 396 Posted July 18, 2006 (edited) Finally Dewaotori wins again! But wait, it was only a lousy Hatakikomi. Okay, I'll take it, at least it's a victory - who'd he beat? ?!? Mokonami? It's been that kind of tournament for me in Juryo. *sigh* Wouldn't you have thought this bout would be one to look forward to going in to this tournament? What a disappointment. I haven't heard from anyone close to the action yet. Why aren't these two rikishi better in Nagoya? Good call on Daimanazuru by the way Fujisan. I wondered about him but he's the last and latest big sideburn guy so I kind of didn't want to bet on him to lose (even though he is clearly in over his head). Now what would you do with Takanowaka if he works his way back up to Makuuchi again? I'd be sorely tempted to pick him for worst Makuuchi but there is no telling how he's going to do. I remember when he looked good in sanyaku for a short while. Juryo is volatile these days, that's for sure. Edited July 18, 2006 by Itachi

I seriously hope Mokononami picks his pace up or I'm gonna be kabodan in only my second basho at Ozeki.

Taka 33 Posted July 18, 2006 (edited) I used to love picking Juryo, not just this game but in others as well, but now as a result of not having been able to watch the action for what feels like a long time now, I feel more or less completely out of touch with it and my picks definitely suffer from it. Well Takanowaka lost to Satoyama today - he's already got his kk so no great tragedy. Both Dewanosato and Mokonami lost AGAIN today. I saw those three (Satoyama, Dewa, and Moko) as the young fast risers that would sail through Juryo due to their superior talent. Satoyama has scrambled through Juryo rather than sail through but Moko's passage appeared smooth and Dewa just hadn't shown much weakness on the way up. I am disappointed to lose my Ozeki status AGAIN but I don't think I would select much differently if I were to do it again. I'll just trust my instincts again next time and perhaps they only come through 75% of the time but then the odds are I'll be back. Surely Juryo can't stay so wild for 3 consecutive tournaments? On the other hand, I'm sure those who are doing well don't feel that there is anything unusual going on so perhaps I'm just too old to be competitve ... (ignore that - I'm just wallowing)

I know what you mean but this is too tempting to resist. (Dribbling...) Dewanosato will be 36 in November and currently he is fighting for kachi-koshi at 3-3 in mid makushita. (Holiday feeling...) (ignore that - I'm just wallowing) Well, I am sure it must be wild as after 2 (or more?) basho of unintentional Scarebear-like quality of my guesses in Jonokuchi, this time I am somehow leading the division. (Dribbling...) Not that I understand juryo so well, just wild good luck. (Holiday feeling...)

Thanks for the update on Dewanosato.
