Oga from 6-0 to 6-7

Recommended Posts

before the basho i was sure that oga would have something like 5-10 or worse and was very surprised to see him start 6-0...i was also wondering if he can do yumitori-duties when in top-juryo or even makuuchi...

all those thought were useless as he had 7 kuroboshi in a row....

does anyone with some inside knowledge or someone seeing him fight tell if he looks injured.....

Well, it took the guy 13 years to make it to Juryo. He wasn't exactly a rising star when he made his juryo debut. I'd say I was more surprised by his 10-5 in May than I am by his struggles in July.

Unlike you (I think), I do not get a chance to see the matches so I can't comment on his form. He may have changed his style or his committment to improving his sumo which could explain his long delayed success as a riksihi but just following his records over the years, he seems way over his level. I hope he has a great time up there before he falls back down. Perhaps he will find a way to linger but I'd be shocked if he developed into a Makuuchi caliber rikishi so late in his career. It would be a great and happy story though, if he did transform into a Makuuchi level rikishi. Let's see if he can find his footing again.

Oga 6-0 -> 6-7

Takanowaka 8-0 -> 8-5

Possible loss to Miya then Tochiazuma may go 8-0 -> 8-5 too

Did it happened that someone went 7-0 -> 7-8 in the past?

nice site ....

Tochinishiki (do i read that correct?) did come from a 0-7 to a KK though ... this is even more terrific ....

At least not in Makuuchi, according to Takayama-san's website.

Interesting chart. It doesn't show anyone ever doing an alternating win/loss or vice versa through an entire basho. (Holiday feeling...)

Yes, you read it right, and only once after that basho he had seven losses again. He collected 10 yusho in these 41 basho... seems like that 8 win streak kick started his career.

:-) What's up, he makes a make-kochi today. Such a good 6-0 start and now 6-8.

That is it what sumo makes great. Nothing is predictable

That's absolutely right! Therefore I like this sport.

Tochiazuma 8-0 -> 8-6

But he's injured and I don't understand, that he does not give up the tournament. He has kachi-kochi and will be in the rank as an Ozeki also next time.

He decided to present first kadoban status to Kotooshu. :-)

Hmm, if he wants Kotooshu to be kadoban, me thinks, he should better have withdrawn and let someone else try to win against him...

Kotooshu is probably saved from Kadoban. He could even get a fusensho tomorrow ....

Perhaps he wants to prevent Kotooshu from being kadoban?
