How did your adoptee do?

Recommended Posts

Just to start the topic for this basho, which wasn't a really successful one for my guys.

MS 48E, Ettoryu, Dewanoumi Beya, 2-5 :-P

SD 74W, Kotootori, Sadogatake Beya, 2-5, another one. Jumped to Sandanme last basho and now he jumps back.

SD 64E, Kotomisen, Sadogatake Beya, 5-2, a ray of hope at the horizon

J 4E, Kakuryu, Izutsu Beya

Fine basho!! (Gyoji...) I'd rather like him to stay one more basho in Juryo and gain some experience than to become a jojo riskishi.

--------------------------------

Kotoshogiku ....... 3-12 ...........

Remains

JD 75W, KOKI, Takanohana Beya (Shaking head...)

2-5, not really a yokuzuna like result this time, but he still has time until 2010 ;-)

Anyway, as I always say and sing: Stand by your ma(e)n ..........

I'm afraid Masuko heated the wall at Sd100e, or let's say he warmed it up a little. He had a good start (3-1) but then lost three in a row for his first career mk.

MASUKO GANBARE!

Hochiyama, my adoptee from the open of the "game" won the Juryo Yusho and will become the first adoptee of that class to make the top division!

Koryu 3-4 in very high Makushita, not what I had hoped for, but pretty much what I expected. Still, his career-long streak of 3+ wins each basho remains intact, and one of these days he'll take that last step to Juryo. (Gyoji...) (Shaking head...)

Daiyuchi (ms53w) bounced back from two consecutive MKs and managed a 4-3 this time around. I guess our meeting gave him the so much needed encouragement ;-)

Hoshihikari (sd19e) is still AWOL and anyone who can drop by the Hakkaku beya and ask what is wrong with him will earn a pint of beer when we meet .... :-P

the following rikishi are not "officialy" adopted but i started following ther development since i saw them "live" in Natsu.

Chiyonoshima (jd24w) managed a 4-3 record and will move up a bit.

Morioka (sd34w) finished with a nice 5-2 and will be in makushita before he can make an oicho-mage.

Azumi (jd13w) had only a 4-3 record but at 19 years old i am not afraid .. he will progress [/color]

beer and women to all of them (Gyoji...)

Hyugano was at his career high Jd2e for the second time and for the second time came away with a 3-4. Two of his wins were against sandanme oppopnents. His record since coming off about a year on banzuke-gai has been a fairly respectable 22-13. He will drop back to about Jd20 and restart his climb. It's beginning to look like he will probably max out in low to middle sandanme.

It's been a while since I mentioned my two adoptees.

I've even failed to trumpet their successes so it's not that I'm a fair weather friend - just a negligent one.

Anyway, Nishikikaze (who indirectly provides me with a regular stream of banzuke through his father and my wife's relatives) has achieved his 2nd 4-3 in a row, this time from Ms 33e. He actually started the year at Ms19 or something but I think he's just about at his ceiling there. One day, perhaps he'll surprise me and become one of those longest-time-to-reach-Juryo guys. He has had a match or two there over the years but no victories.

Sasaki is form Aomori, with the same stable as Wakanosato who I like, and seemed to get a pretty good start on his career - getting to Sandanme fairly smoothly. Since I adopted him, he's drifted around in Sandanme, once or twice even falling to Jonidan. He rebounded a bit over the past year and was ranked Sd29w which has to be close to his best rank. 3-4 was the result, after two 4-3 tournaments.

4-3 and 3-4 isn't very exciting but these guys are both at a fairly high rank for themselves so not getting slaughtered shows me that maybe they are getting a bit better through experience and next basho may show further improvement. My goals for them are that Nishikikaze earn at least one win against a Juryo ranked rikishi and for Sasaki to get promoted to Makushita.

Sasaki is still fairly young but Sandanme seems to be his level just as Nishikikaze seems trapped in Makushita.

Since there are no rikishi from Tottori I decided last basho to pick one from nearby Shimane prefecture to support. I selfishly picked the best one, Fukuoka in Hakkaku beya, from the Oki islands in Shimane. Which is very close to where I'm at in Tottori, as well.

He was at his highest rank of Makushita 29 after just 9 basho from his debut, but alas there was some wall heating and he finished with a disappointing 2-5.

I wish him better luck next time.

My adoptee is Nakanokuni, the Chinese rikishi currently ranked at Ms. 42. He is an oshi sumo specialist, and at age 22, he is a reasonable juryo prospect. He is also the highest ranked rikishi in Minato beya.

This basho he had a fine 6-1 record, so that should put him in the Ms. teens.

About a year back, he was ranked at Ms. 11 due to a zensho yusho he achieved at high Sd., but he has since yo-yo back to Ms. 30s with a series of 3-4 records.

My adoptees:

Kageyana Ms1e - 6/1 (I was stupid...)

Wakanoho M7e - 4/3 (Holiday feeling...)

Sotairyu M29w - 2/5 (Nodding yes...)

Tsubasaumi Jd22w - 4/3 (Holiday feeling...)

I'm pretty pleased with all my guys except for Sotairyu. Does anyone know if he's hurt or just had a BAD basho??? Thanks in advance for the info... :luv

With absolutely nothing to go on except his records (3-4, 4-3, 2-5 of late), I'd say: wall. He's quite undersized at 179 cm/105 kg, after all, and mid-Makushita is the level at which that tends to become a real problem, even for talented rikishi.
