Manekineko 200 Posted December 31, 2002 Nope. Here's the tenth and final row: As for four unguessed ones from previous rows: first one in the 4th row last one in the 6th row first and second one in 9th row they are all veterans that were still active in 2002, although one or two may have retired by now... edit: Happy New Year! :D

Heitaikai 0 Posted December 31, 2002 My suggestions for the ninth row: first one: Kinkaiyama?? second one: Buyuzan Thank you very much, Manekineko! It was a very funny game
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted December 31, 2002 1st in the 9th row could well be Daizen. Maybe the 6th row mystery man is Susanoumi before fat cells took over. Nice mugshot-pics Manekineko-zeki! Unnecessary comments: Shikishima's natural built seems to have been quite thin as he lost huge amount of weight after his retirement and he always had weak looking upper body even when 180kg. It is easy to see who are college rikishi since they all (except Chiyotenzan) have thick trapezius-muscles. On the other hand Wakanosato looks very strong too. Tony 16 Posted December 31, 2002 Ehh Susanoumi, maybe! It's very possible!
Manekineko 200 Posted January 1, 2003 Good morning  (Dozing off...) Yubi-zeki got the 10th row right, as could be expected. Kaikitsune-zeki got Daizen right! I'm impressed, since I can barely see any resemblance in that picture. Other guesses were wrong. To make life for you guessers (and me) easier, here are the remaining three mystery men in single lineup: All of them were active sekitori in 2002, but some of them won't be seen on dohyo in 2003. Fujisan 533 Posted January 1, 2003 Guess I'll have to watch more closely,I recognised very few of them, even though when the Rikishi first step on the
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 1, 2003 Something different ,as anyone noticed how much Yokozuna Miennoumi and Takanosato look alike in the Sumo museum pictures? They could be twins,Are they related to each other? I don't think so because I believe I would've heard about it (uh-oh, I'm beginning to sound as if I were a senior sumo fan :-) ). Takanosato hails from Aomori in the north of Honshu while Mienoumi hails from Mie which lies (quite a long way) southwest of Tokyo. Then again Mie might not be the real prefecture where he was born but I'd still be very surprised to hear they're relatives. BTW, did you know Mienoumi's father was Korean? This was held in secrecy until he was promoted to ozeki when he invited the press to his father's tomb which was clearly of Korean style. Moreover, his Japanese mother wore a Korean garment. Tony 16 Posted January 1, 2003 An other evidence : real name of Takanosato is Toshihide Takaya, and real name of Mienoumi is Goro Ishiyama. ( Takanosato : what fantastic rikishi! )
Fujisan 533 Posted January 1, 2003 I didnt think so but when I first saw them, silly as it sounds I thought "God its the same guy,"A coupla years after Mienoumi(sorry for earlier spelling)retires Takanosato becomes Yokozuna, someones pulling a fast one.Yes I know its not possible but thats how alike they look. As for Mienoumis father being Korean,it just shows how attitudes have changed in 20 yrs-Now they might have a Mongolian Yokozuna next year.
