Dale 0 Posted July 30, 2006 And to Kinta,Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. Well said, Joe. I consider Moti to be a dear friend. Sumo aside, I suspect there are other things on his mind these days as well. I'm sorry that the sumo forum hasn't been a pleasant place for him lately. I hope it will be again soon. For everybody. To the moderators- I'm kinda a newbie, so it's not my place to say, but there are a couple of posters here who may be driving good people away. I'm not big on censorship, but moderation is there for the group's best interests, right? Don't be afraid to exercise your power (responsibly, of course :) Dale

Don't be afraid to exercise your power (responsibly, of course :) Just out of curiousity, who would the 'driving people away' posters be? Yes, Kintamayama was a valuable member/assest to the sumoforum, but it seems to me like he left because he couldn't stand people disagreeing with him. First, there was the Roho/Chiyotaikai thingy. He came charging out of the blocks adamant that Roho should be kicked out of sumo immediately, if not drawn and quartered first. When I said that it looked like Chiyotaikai started it with a bit of trash talking, a lengthy discussion ensued. The second thing was someone objected to Ootake oyakata slapping Roho in the face. Kintamayama was incredulous that someone should have such an opinion in regards to sumo. Shortly after, he put himself on timeout. Of course, I enjoyed many of his posts, but he often came across too strongly for my tastes.
Itachi 396 Posted July 31, 2006 Shibouyama>Yes, Kintamayama was a valuable member/assest to the sumoforum, but it seems to me like he left because he couldn't stand people disagreeing with him. Itachi>I sincerely hope Kintamayama returns - partly for selfish reasons because of his valuable contributions, and partly because I think he enjoyed sharing his sumo passion and knowledge here. I'm sure he enjoyed reading posts from some of the other great contributors here. Shibouyama>First, there was the Roho/Chiyotaikai thingy. He came charging out of the blocks adamant that Roho should be kicked out of sumo immediately, if not drawn and quartered first. Itachi>Kintama-zeki stuck his neck out a bit on the Roho issue. He has opinions and he passionately defends them which leaves him open to frustration and flaming when others are equally passionate in their disagreement. It is easier to be boring and dispassionate and not get too worked up about what other's may think but passionate posters like Kintamayama breathe life into the forum. It may be that Kintamayama came across too strongly in some of the his posts over the last while but I took it with a few grains of salt because he has earned himself a lot of slack with his efforts over the years and because, as was suggested earlier, he may be under a lot of stress due to events outside sumo and I do not envy him that. I hope that the tone of the forum over the past month is just a temporary problem due to unbearable summer temperatures or World Cup Football disappointment or something. Perhaps we can all get back to sharing opinions and information about sumo (and happy lurking) when anticipation of next tournament heats up. I look forward to your return Moti! I hope you will continue to participate in sumogames, in particular I am hoping you will try the Sandanme Game next tournament (which is currently being administered thoruhg the sumoforum sumogames subforum). You are the MAIN (but not the only..) reason for my temporary leaving. But I'm back, and since I "often" came across too strongly for your "tastes", I forbid you to read ANY of my posts. I still think Rohou should be thrown out of Sumo, and BTW, Kitanoumi Rijicho announced that he will be for ANY infraction from here on, as small as it may be. It has no bearing who started what and what Chiyotaikai said, and I'm pretty sure you understand it as well as I do, regardless of your postulating. As for the slap, well. I can't explain the color blue to the blind. Oh, I'm back alright.

Shibouyama 1 Posted July 31, 2006 There is no place here for people disagreeing with me. What I say is almost holy. I assume you are joking, but it's hard to tell sometimes. You are the MAIN (but not the only..) reason for my temporary leaving. Don't BLAME me. You left all by yourself. But I'm back, and since I "often" came across too strongly for your "tastes", I forbid you to read ANY of my posts. Putting things in quotation marks doesn't really help you make your "point". I was actually trying to be "polite" and had deleted a couple sentences that someone might have had an "issue" with. Maybe he should be thrown out of sumo. I'm not Roho's defense attorney and never claimed to be. I was disagreeing with you about what Chiyotaikai said. You were totally sure that boyscout Chiyotaikai was asking Roho, "Daijoubu ka?" So sure of it. Infuriated that anyone could think differently. And you were wrong. After that, when Roho attacked the reporters I wasn't defending Roho at all. IMHO, you take yourself way too seriously and need to lighten up. Oh, by the way, welcome back, I guess. (Chucking salt...)

No offense, but you seem to be one of just very few people who can't tell the difference between Moti being serious and Moti joking... Given that you've also taken other people seriously when they clearly weren't (no, not talking about me, at least I don't recall any such incident involving me), I'd say that part of the humor deficiency might be on your end. Mark Buckton 1 Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) Moti is easy enough to figure out - if it sounds reasonably sane he is being cynical. If it sounds completely out there - that's him being serious. At least, that's how I've always seen it. Edited July 31, 2006 by Adachinoryu

Personally I take Moti at face value if he wants to be egnigmatic in his posts then its his right but he shouldn't be too surprised if people take him too seriously. "There is no place here for people disagreeing with me." Well, he says it like a joke, but is it really? Last basho, me and maybe a few other people dared to disagree with him and he couldn't deal with it, ran away to sulk for a couple of weeks. I thought he was joking some of the time then, as well. Like when he gave me my cool nickname of 'The Brigadier' I thought he was joking around, enjoying himself as we traded posts back and forth. I have misunderstood people, of course. I can think of 3 occasions, off hand. Noone is perfect and I've never claimed to be. I have demonstrated a rather fine sense of humor on many more than 3 occasions. As to whether the people who miss the subtlety of Mr. Kintamayama's humor on occasion are few or many, maybe we should take a poll.

And for a couple of weeks to boot..I just took a few days off from people like you, sir. I didn't sulk, I didn't run away, I just had it for a few days from people like you.
